I've got a 96 Dodge Avenger, running with the 420a powertrain directly out of a 97 Talon and have been looking at exhaust. Heres the deal though, when I do it I'm going to do it all out, header, exhaust, muffler, etc.
Now to the question. Since I'm running n/a, and likely will keep it that way seeing as the car will likely be my DD, whats the best way to go?
I was thinking of running 2.5" exhaust the whole way with a Buschur high-flow cat and down-pipe, then headers, a decent muffler, and then just have a local shop bend me the 2.5" pipe to fit it, but I'm not all that sure, what's your take on it? What's the best way to go, in your opinion, to make this DD as peppy as possible

Boost it
Seriously though, ebay catbacks are very popular, great fitment, quality and sound at a great price. Mark Bullet, fastest n/a 420a, was using an ebay header until just recently. As far as cat, depends on your location, if you have emissions I'd go with a true high flow cat, if not, I'd get a test pipe from concept illusions, just be prepared to wait a couple weeks for it. Actually on second thought, if it's a DD don't get a test pipe, it's a lotta smell to put up with every day and getting caught catless is usually BIG fines. Ever since I've heard there are cops in my area that will actually check for a cat, I've been afraid to venture to far with my eclipse

Get a ebay Tsudo N1 cat back exhaust. Iam pretty sure the avernger's layout is almost identical to the Eclipse/Talon, so i doubt you would have a problem with it fitting properly (but make sure first). but you really cant go wrong for $200 or so, well thats if you dont wanna go spending $500 on a apex or something, ya know?.keep or stock cat or high flow, dont get a test pipe it will probally make it sound like shit. but if you want u could get a custom job done at a muffler shop but prices are always diffrent everywhere u go, but around me a custom cat back will run you around $400 or so. but in any matter dont get anything bigger then 2 1/2" pipping cuz your NA. and for a header, and ebay one will do just as good as any name brand. just some ideas for ya..

Yeah the setup is damn near the same. The only difference seems that my car is three inches longer from the shifter back, so I need to tweak the talon or eclipse exhaust just a bit to make it fit right. If I remember correctly from when I was under the car last I'd need about a three inch extension piece between the end of the down pipe and cat for it all to mount up right to the stock brackets

Header: PM Quicksilver99 and get in line for his long tube header (which is actually proven to make power) and since its custom anyway he can add the 3" to make it bolt up to the Veng.
Cat: true DD? get a real Highflow cat, a test pipe or gutted cat will make it sound raspy and ricy. plus the women will ask what the smell is
Cat-Back: Tsudo N-1 or GST exhaust. best bang for the buck. they wont be carbon/titanium but they wont cost you your wallet either.
