#10768, "How do you make plug gap smaller? Hit it on a table?"

How do you guys make the gap smaller? Do you just hit the plug onto a hard surface? When I make the gap too small, it does not seem to be parallel with the center electrode anymore. It tends to curve down so one side is lower than the other...BTW, I only have the cheap 99 cent tapered gapper (like a big coin).

But when I try to do small gaps like 0.030" it is not parallel over the center electrode anymore. Is this ok?

yea, if it's slightly off it won't make a difference (the gap for our plugs is 0.048-0.053, because a little variation is expected)

and, usually a gapping tool has a little slot which can be used to pull the electrode further away and push it closer, right where the electrode starts to curve sideways you put the slot there and bend the electrode
