Has anyone had syncronizers (spelling??) replaced on their 5 spd? My 3rd gear is fucked and I want to know how much of a bitch it is. Also does anyone know of any stronger internals for the 5spd, or a substitute tranny that will fit and may be stringer??

It's not just a bitch (i'd say without a shadow of a doubt you can't do it.) it's EXPENSIVE to have it done. To the tune of $1200-$1600, as i was quoted.
Here's my two best tips in this situation(not to be rude, but..)
1. Buy a used tranny instead of a rebuild. 2. Learn to drive your stick.

Here's another thought....how many miles has it been since you changed your tranny fluid?
I do it once a year for the hell of it. 120k+ miles on the stock tranny and over 500 drag passes. The only thing I've had to change was the clutch. And I've got a new one of those going in soon too.
