So, i decided to buy a built motor and turbo kit off malenko. the motor is built w/ weisco pistons, crower rods, some nice port work done on the head, and arp head studs. all the usual stuff was replaced aswell. Anyways, he bought the motor from a guy to drop in his RS, motor had +/- 2k miles on it, then he got his GSX and it sat for a year + on a pallate from what he said. very nice motor, thanks Malenko.
Well, after letting my new motor sit on the garage floor on some pads for a week, we decided, even though it was like... 20 degrees outside, to swap the motor. We started at about 10:30 pm last friday night, and had the old motor, power steering, a/c, and some various other crap removed. it came out very smoothly, no removing crank pully, nothing. we just hooked up the lift, un-bolted the motor from the trans, slid it forward and out it came. (we did un-bolt the flywheel from the clutch though.) Getting the new motor in was almost as easy. took a little movement of the trans to get the bolts on the flywheel to slip past the bellhousing on the trans. after we got it all hooked up and bolted in, (aligning the clutch with the flywheel was a bitch for some reason) we fired it up at about 5 am sunday morning, only to find we forgot to plug in the CTS for the ECU and dash. after we got plugged up though it ran fine. all in all, i would rate difficulty as a... 5 of 10. i think any retard with the right tools, time, and info could do this, but i might be wrong. It was a great time doing the swap though. i cant wait till my mani and DP get here so i can feed her some boost.
Old Motor still in the car, before we begin.
A/C and Power steering almost removed.
Exhaust mani off, almost ready to pull her out.
My brother and i pulling off various shit
Finally got the hoist on her
Bryan (95eclipse420a) 1/2 asleep under the car pulling trans bolts out
Finally the bastard is out.
Corona time!
This is what 164k miles of SHIT built up on the exh port of cly 3 looks like.
Pics of the port work done on the intake side of things. didnt get exh side pic, mabye when the turbo mani goes on i will.
No pics of the re-install, sorry... no batteries. but here is the new motor in. (the Ic pipe is holding my air filter on untill mani/dp get here)
** Current status: 9 bent valves. and it only had 6,000 miles on it. i hope the replacement goes well. **
Lots of expensive parts, and still slow! Oh wait, it has to run to go fast.
