Ok. i know this should be in 4g63, but i figured more people would look here. When my car is cold, you can hear a ticking. Sounds like lifter ticking. When the car gets warmed up, it disappears. This was all fine and i even put some lifter click stuff in the engine oil. HOWEVER, i started reading some stuff on the unspeakable (crankwalk) today and it scared me. lol. one of the first signs was a clicking coming from the engine area. I have an AT so i dont really have any of the shifting symptoms. Please tell me its just lifter click. PLEASE put my mind to rest

lifter tick is normal on a 4g63. My girl's got it in her spyder. We used 10w30 mobil-1 oil and it went away completely. I think thicker grade oil will help with the ticking.

Not to worry. I am about 99% sure you do NOT have crankwalk. Lifter tick is completely normal in the 4G63. Of all the cars that have reported to have crankwalk, I think only one or two were automatic, and of those, they were modified to hell. One was a 1g that had Nitrous, turbo, and a slew of other mods..
The reason why the sound goes away as you drive the car is that the oil finally makes its way up to the top of the engine...to the valve cover where the lifters and cams are. thats why it quiets down after a while. (well oil is always there, just not warmed up yet and flowing normally.)

Reason for ticking is the stock lifters in pre 99 4G cars have really small holes for the oil to drain. Mitsu redesigned them and you can get new ones with bigger holes that will eliminate the ticking. You'll need 16 of them. $8 a pop. For that money, I'll deal with the ticking for now. I've also heard that the stuff called "restore" will get rid of the ticking too but I've never tried it.
