My mechanic is warning me that because my car is running so rich (enough to lose 7mpg) he is worried that the catalytic convertor will get plugged up and he has heard horror stories about this happening to other people and ultimately it ruins there engines....I don't want that happening to mine!! He said I should look for a straight pipe to buy but I would love to hear your opinions...is there a cat I can buy that won't get clogged with a rich a/f mixture? Do I just need to get one of those $30 cats off ebay as a temporary fix until I get the MSns on there to fix the a/f problem? What would you do...

I guess the first thing to start with would be what fuel system are you running. Removing stuff just to remove it is not a good way to go. its running rich for a reason. find out the reason.

the more we know. The more you will get help

We will build you bigger and stronger

I know exactly why it's running rich - the factory ECU is still in there and it doesn't like the Crower 2's...I am planning on getting Megasquirt in the next month but I need to know now if my cat will cause problems to the engine or not - maybe it can't last a month, maybe it's on its last day right now? I dont know, maybe its perfectly fine...it's not worth the risk of frying the engine that's for sure!

do you need to pass emissions?
you could grab a test pipe for the interum, or at least drop the down pipe and look at the cat to see if its melted / or otherwise fooked looking.

No I don't have to pass emissions until summer '08 so that's why I was inquiring about a test pipe for now...it's probably gonna be the end of January by the time I get the Megasquirt installed...
