I almost want to puke. I just got my motor in and almost everything assembled, I looked on the ground and found the ring that sits on the flex plate. It's the small ring with the 8 bolt holes on it. Question is, do I actually need it? I don't want to pull the motor back out just for that stupid ring if I don't have to. Does anyone know what its purpose is and if I need it. TIA.

Getting the engine back in and buttoned up only to find a piece lying on the garage floor would make me sick as well. Do some searchin' cause only a few months back I had a question as to which side of the flexplate that ring went onto, and if i'm not mistaken, a few people chimed in saying that is wasn't necessary to put it on. I do however have it installed. Good luck.

Well, I don't know if that makes me feel any better, but I just want to know if anyone knows exactly what it does. This royally sucks.

Here's two pictures of what it is that I am talking about. I know that they didn't put this shim in there for no reason, my question is, can I get away with not using it? As far as I can see, it just serves as a washer for the bolts. I torqued all of the bolts down to spec, so everything "should" be okay without it right? Any input at all???....

Mike's correct Jeff. You're all set. I've left it off before. It basically allows the bolts to dig into that ring instead of the flywh-, er, flexplate.
