It's 1:47 am and i just got home from sitting in a parking garage for the past 2 hours waiting for my car to start. After long or hard drives I have to let it sit for a while before it starts, what could be the problem? the starter and battery are fine and I have a push start wired directly to the starter and that doesnt even crank when its hot. its had this problem for about 6 months now, so i got the push start, it worked great for a long time until one day i was trying to sneak out of this girls house and decided to push my car to the street before I started it as i was pushing and turning the wheel the steering locked up so i got into the car unlocked the steering and thinking it was gonna fire right up, nothing happened i had to wait about 10 min. from that day on even the push start wired to the starter wont turn my car on when its hot. this is really driving me crazy and im ready to part it out and get another car if i cant fix this problem. Also when I tested the connections to the starter recently to see if it was getting power it started up each time no problem. and i've tried push starting the car and throwing it in gear to no avail... Does anyone have any suggestions or things i can try to fix this? PLEASE help! Thanks, Ivan

Assuming you have checked all the wires and battery terminals throughly then it just about has to be a starter.
There is no reason a starter won't crank when it is hot or cold except a bad starter/relay (Again, assuming you have first checked all the electrical as you indicate).

This happened to me once or twice. The last time it happened I disconnected and re-connected the power cable AT the starter, and it never happened again, I guess those "spirited" drives loosened the connection and I just had to plug it right again.

ive tried disconnecting and reconnecting but it doesnt work...it happened again today, but i grabbed a piece of wire and made contact with the starter connection and the positive terminal on the battery and it fired right up...ive been running it hard all day and it starts each time now with the push start...this is a really strange and confusing problem :/

Now you know it's your starter then.

Sounds like the same issue I've had with my car for a good while. When I turn my key over to fire the car it grounds everything out and the car does nothing. Jumpering the solenoid to the battery works for me everytime so I hooked up a stealth push button starter. I never used the rear wiper squirter so I took the wire coming from that and ran it as my 12v switched to a standard relay. When I hit the squirter it triggers the relay and she starts every single time. I've always thought I had a short in my ignition so this was my 3 dollar solution.

I wanna do that using my cigarette lighter, and deactivate the keyhole ignition, that'd be schweet!

If you can push start the car in these situations (assuming you are capable of pushing the car fast enough and doing it right), then it's the starter. Be thankful it's so easy to access. On the 4G63 cars, it's on the back of the block and tucked way up underneath things. Eff.dat

Mine is actually set up that way, its a red button that says "engine start" were the cig lighter used to be, and my key doesn't turn the car on the button doess, looks really kool!
Update on the situation..it hasnt heppened since i ran the wire from the starter to the battery, it starts every time now with out hesitation

That's cool and all (as well as a dead give away, but I want my "push button" to be the ACTUAL cigarette lighter. Stealth FTW.
