Was wondering if someone had an idea as to what is going on with my 95 auto esi. I was just out for a quite ride... just because she doesn't see much use. I slowed to a stop at a stop sign and she died. She started right back up again after turning over for a few seconds (which is how she normally starts). I drove her the remaining 100 feet to my driveway, parked her, shut her off, and proceeded to try and start her again. She will turn over, but will not start. what is strange is that the tach bounces around 1000 to 1300 when the key is in the on position. Looks almost like the needle of a volt meter or something.

For some backround... I just put a new ecu in the car and repaired a bad ground that i was told was probably the cause of the fried ecu. i had a cel when i installed the new ecu and now i don't so i'm afraid it might be gone again. any suggestions?

Same thing happened to me when I first got my car. I replaced the ecu which did nothing. I ended taking it to the dealership and they said it had something to do with my Idle Speed Sensor rubbing against some metal (I think they said EGR tube) and shorting. It was a $500 bill. Which I was told on this forum could have been fixed for around $20. I'll look my old post up, and paste a link to it right here.

EDIT: here is the link My Thread 3yrs Ago Sorry, it was the Idle SPEED Sensor, I corrected that in my original paragraph. Feel free to contact Chamuko, or some of the more tech experienced members to find out how you can fix it yourself. I wouldn't know since I paid for the dealership to do it. If you do, make sure to give back, and do a walk-through on the fix!

Hey man, I was doing a search for the location of the sensor, and I ran across This Post It sounds exactly like what you describe, and it ended up being the same thing I suggested, the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) tube melting wires, and causing shorts/malfunctions. DEFINITELY read all of that thread and ABSOLUTELY ask some one more knowledgeable than me (pretty much any on else) about the location of all those sensors.

But remember to start with the least expensive, to avoid unnecessary expenses.

ok, judging from your PM and these posts, definitely check the wiring.

The engine needs Air, fuel and spark to work so start with those.

The most common culprit is wiring that is frayed or melted from rubbing against other things or touching hot items and shorting out.

Check by the EGR tube (between your battery and engine) and by any moving parts or any wires that are covered in oil/soot.

Physically inspect everything, just because the harness looks good from your point of view doesnt mean that its not melting and shorting on the under side.
