My throttle cable keeps getting stuck, and the plastic casing around it is melting, can anyone give me any ideas on what could be wrong. This is just weird...

edit:
The plastic is catching on fire now if I turn the key to the on position.

agree with DarkOne, your grounding through your throttle cable.

most likly is the cable from the firewall to the intake manifold. if you have upgraded your ground wires though it might be the one to the head. however some people have a wire direct from the ground terminal to the throttle plate.
hopes this helps

Bad grounds. Your engine is grounding through the throttle cable.

which ground do you think would ground through the throttle cable?

Any of them. Electrically, the entire engine is connected. Check *all* your grounds.

Your engine is not grounded at all. There is a flexible ground strap (forgot where it is since its been a long time since I had mine on there)that has probably corroded/broken,etc.. or someone just forgot to reattach it when the motor was out.

I would suggest getting some wire (at least 8 AWG) and terminals.
Run one electrically attached to the engine from a bolt close to the starter area under the intake piping
to a suitable location on the chassis. Then run another from near the intake..(I threw one right under one of the bolts for the coilpack) to somewhere on the firewall.
Make sure all connections are clean and free of paint/grease/corrosion.

And boy do I wish I had the pull here that DarkOne has. This came up about 2-3 years ago with someone else and my answer was identical to his (grounding through throttle cable) and the post turned into a bash on me because some members couldn't grasp reality.

And just for info the throttle cable is ALWAYS being used as a ground. The problem is when its the only ground to the engine.

My favorite is when madhatter says that grounds dont carry current and then he shows me a diagram showing the flow of electrons (which is current) all the way around the circuit.

On my last engine pull I only encountered two straps - one goes from the firewall to right on top of the intake manifold. The bolts that go through the intake manifold to the block make for the current path. The other ground strap is attached to the block by one of the starter bolts. Also, the trans is grounded, and so the block is essentially grounded to the trans by its connection. So you can check those places.
