i have a 2nd gen eclipse GS and want to know what i can do to get more power... i was told not to bother with a 420A, and just to engine swap for a 4G63... opinions?

whoever told you to swap to a 4G63 is a dumbass, tell them that to their faces. there is plenty of power to be made with a 420A, you just have to not half ass it (although some of the members here seem to get away with that all the time)

swapping to a 4g63 is not impossible, just stupidly expensive and wasteful. if you really want a 4g63 you might as well sell your GS and go buy a GSX/GST, it's way less hassle.

as for learning about how to make your GS faster and more fun, let the SEARCH function be your mantra, most questions have been answered time and time again (and those of us that tend to do the answering tend to get a little tired of the repetition)

I got a built motor for sale, and after I find a a stock manifold and downpipe I'll have a stage 2 turbo for sale too

ok we are kinda right 4g63 is just easier but at the same way it the same becaue u going to throw 2000 $ in buy the car - stock turbo but

420a is nice strong engine what u really need to do is do the bottom end with forge internals, perforamce head gasket, do the fuel upgrades
(fuel injectors regualrs etc) upgrade ur valve train and get a nice size turbo, port and polish. it sounds like much but the fact is i seen some 420a guys on the same or even a higher game then gsts. the real different is it easier if u had the motor but it u paying 2 grand more so infact if u understand what im saying u can be half way to putting the sprry @$$ guys u talk smack in the ground do some research ( im been reseaching which is the best way to go in my gs since 02/07 so he he i kinda know a little bit what im talking about

Just for the record, the last conversation I had with someone who brought up the swap had the following elements. You might want to sit down for this one. I had to leave the room and call a counselor. (Seriously.)

- He wanted a price on a twin-turbo kit for the car.
- He said the local track wouldn't let him race without being sponsored.
- He said he got the JDM 420A engine out of the EVO III.
- He said he receipts to prove it.
- He also has a 1200hp Camaro.
- He makes about $10,000 a week street racing in SW Chicagoland.
- One time, he did a 6-block wheelie in front of a cop.
- His car was impounded, but he didn't get a ticket, and the cop got his car out of impound for him for free.

This is the type of person who talks about this swap. I hope we've all learned a lesson today.

Motor swapping is for imature kids who own honda's. The 4g63 and 420a are not interchangeable and swapping them is not a practical option. It can be done but 99 percent of the population here cannot do it for less than the cost of just buying ANOTHER 2G AWD and adding it to your collection.

I can count the people who could accomplish this task on oen hand here and as it may, are not stupid enough to waste their time.
