I'd say keep driving it while you build another one for boost. I mean if you're planning on replacing/rebuilding anyways, just get a spare block and have it built properly. You can also pick up a stock rebuilt head if you want for a couple hundred off of ebay if you don't want to put a built block on a worn 170k head but don't want to spend a ton on a performance oriented built head. Oh and if you're planning on boosting the car, the cheapest route isn't going to be the best when you're talking about motor options.
I contributed to the Wiki! EVO IX - just a really expensive boost gauge and a K&N air filter 96 Eclipse RS -awaiting registration and inspection 95 Eclipse GS - parts car Mods/Profile - http://www.2gnt.com/index.php?d=cs82685

Take care of the one you've got right now. Continue to drive on it while you source another block. Rebuild the other block as time and funds allow. When the replacement is ready to be installed, yank the 170k engine on a Saturday morning, drop the fresh engine in on Sunday.
