So when I turned my stereo down today (which is a rarity for my drives to and from work) I noticed a rattling noise coming from the engine compartment. This only happens at idle. (As far as I can tell) After popping the hood and trying to trace the noise by ear, the closest I can pin it down is between the intake manifold and the actual head on the passenger side. It doesn't *appear* to be a belt, as it doesn't have the characteristic squak. After searching I came up with other problems that were somewhat similar, but nothing close enough, Any thoughts here guys?

+1 on the mounts. I don't have a belt on my powersteering pulley and it rattles when I am driving. I tried tightening it up but its as tight as is getting. There are alot of harness holds around their. Just keep searching I guess. Make sure you are not overlooking anything.

hey slo, not sure if this is your problem, but if you don't have the powersteering/ac belt on, the tensioner may have come loose. mine did and it made a god awful rattle inside the car but I couldn't hear it outside in the engine bay

The tensioner broke a long time ago, thats what made me start the whole no ps thing. Its the actualy pulley on the pump. I can feel it in the pump and when I put my hand on it stops. Like I said, I tried to tighten it but it is not going any tighter.

+1 only way i figured out how to get rid of the famous "Random Eclipse Squeeks" was installing solid mounts. and its definatly true, you no longer care about the little rattles anymore.
possibly you might be hearing a loud injector cycle?
