bought a new 95 eclipse rs with a 420a and five speed. when you start it, it idles rough. if you give it gas the rpms go to 3 or 4 thousand and stays there with no throttle. once it is warmed up it stops doing this. any ideas what would cause it to do that?

check your coolant level and temp sensors.

are you getting any CEL's?

are you saying that if you give it gas "it will stay there"... untill it warms up, or will stay there momentarily and drop slowly? More information will give you a more accurate answer. Aside from that, Ronin is the mang. Also check your Throttle body gasket (from tb-> intake manifold) and and check out your Idle Air Control valve, (IAC)

he said that the idle drops back to normal after the engine gets up to temp, so I think we can rule out vac leaks and the IAC at this point. the temp sensor is what really controls idle/fuel until the engine warms. If the coolant level is too low and there's a big air bubble in the system that'll freak out the sensor and the car will run weird untill it reaches normal operating temp and "fills" the air bubble around the sensor.

check the fluid when cold at the Tstat housing, if it's low you'll need to burp the system. you might need to replace the rad cap or check the reservoir for leaks.

the weird thing I noticed that though is "if you give it gas" it will stay at 3k rpm, what if you dont? I mean if you started up the car and it automatically started idleing at 3k rpm, then it would be a little more concise. If it idles rough then its getting to little air/fuel, it it idles high its getting to much air/fuel. Either way I think you got it emoji

i am getting 2 cel's they are p0443 and p1489. i found that the sylinoid that goes to the egr valve was bad so i replaced it with the one of of my 98 eclipse and didnt make any difference. when you start it and give it no gas, it will sit there and idle. the idle is a little rough, but i think it needs new plugs and wires. if you give it gas like to take off. it stays at the rpm you give it. but it fluxuates a couple hundred rpm. so any more ideas? sorry i would have been more elaborate, but i would have been late for work.
thanks for the help.

well your codes are for the Evaporative emmissions control solenoid circut (p0443) not the EGR solenoid, and the high speed fan control relay circut (p1489)

the fan control circuit is partially controlled by the coolant temp sensor in the thermostat housing. did you check yout coolant level?

as far as the evap emissions, I don't know what to tell you

no, it's not. if everything was flushed properly the red coolant won't hurt anything.

did you just check the reservoir? or the actual flange that the radiator hose attaches too. I just want to make sure you're covering all the bases.
