#10535, "Few Questions"

Ok, have a couple questions for anybody really. I sold my Talon to a buddy after I got my GS-T (its so much more fun emoji lol), anyways, all I had on the car was a CAI, and he wants to mod it quite a bit. Well, you guys are the authority, I told him to sign up here and such emoji But here goes.

First, all ive heard about the UDP (AFX in particular) is that its a great mod and one of the best power for your money upgrades you can do. I already told him to buy one of those. What would installation run him? Im thinking we may be able to do it ourselves with the puller and such, althought neither of us have experience with that sort of thing.

Secondly, he bought a universal muffler off ebay for like 35 bucks, and we called up a few exhaust shops. He can get a full cat back 2.5" system, including labor and putting the muffler on, for $95, sounds good to me, but would like opinions.

Third, while showing him the AFX UDP on Howell's site, I noticed that thing listed below it, the motor mount, that says "For serious racers, no more power less due to engine torquing", or something to that effect. Does anybody actually have one of these, and does it change performance like it says it does?

Fourth, hes also thinking about buying the 55mm AFK TB, I was kinda skeptical about that, will he get any real power upgrade from it, or just improved throttle response? It seems a little steep at 280 bucks, but then again we could always get a spare one from a junkyard and send it over to them for 100. Opinions?

Lastly, neither of us were sure about this. Are there any aftermarket cams available for the NT? If so, where would I be able to find a price on one.

I know its a long post, but we're going to be working alot on this car, which is cool, because I never did much to it save the CAI. I am, however, buying a few goodies with the 600 I had leftover from buying the GST and sellin him the ESI. He still thinks he is going to beat me in all motor form. Sorry bud, youre not that rich emoji

Thanks in advance to anyone with answers.

bored TB = good mod. im doin it next.

for the UDP, check my site the link is below. there is a full writeup on the install.

the stock tb is I think 46mm. the bored one is 55mm.

thats a 9mm difference in diameter. take half of it, the radius, and put that into the equation pieR squared and the circumference diffrence is big enough to make a diff.

03 srt-4 13.130@112.47mph (n2o, stock turbo, 10/2003)
now: 20g, portfueler, bpu+++ (track/dyno times tbd...)

i farted on your wiki

The best thng about installign the underdrive pullies is that yo get you powewr by redicing the drag on the motor. The motor is not having to work any harder but the power that you get to the wheels is increased. I would question if the the cat-back ststem that you are refering to is mandrel bent. If not than I would question if he would get any more power than simply applying the muffler to the factory system. The big advantage tothe use of polyurethane motor mounts is that it significantly reduces wheel hop on a FWD car. This will help you get more power tot he ground. cams are available from GUDE but they are not cheap. I would look at some other options first. I think that the TB is a good idea and this is on my to do list.

The AF/X UDP is a great bang-for-the-buck mod. If you feel comfortable working on cars, then I would say attempt it. Once you get the stock pulley off it is more or less down hill, so if you can't get it off put the bolt back in and take it to a shop.

It seams prices vary from place to place, but from what I get quoted around my parts that is a very good price.

Another option would be replace the stock motor mount inserts with stiffer ones (Energy Suspension makes some). A friend of mine has a Neon with a solid motor mount and the car vibrates quite a bit.

If he can find a spare throttle body or if he can handle the 2 week (mine didn't take two weeks) down time, then I would say send his in and have it bored. However, I would consider other mods if the only way I could get a 55mm throttle body was to pay $280 for it. Basically, it is a good mod, but I am undecided if it is worth $280.

Most people that have upgraded cams have regrinds.

Definately go UDP, 55mm TB, find a junkyard one and get that bored.

Go for the 2.5" cat-back.

Cams... you can get regrinds. or billet cams from a Neon but you need to index them to install them they are not a drop in part it requires a lot of knowledge to install them... they are supposedly fixing this. I am working with Crower to get cams for us that drop in and are already indexed correctly, hopefully looking at an early to mid 2002 release date.
