#105318, "question about ignition relay"

my friend has a 97 avenger with the 420a. The car was idling and then died and will not start back up. He checked for fuel and everything was ok there. He then checked his plugs for spark and the car is firing the plugs one time and then never firing again until you turn the car back off and on. So he decided to replace coil, wires and plugs. The plugs are still getting any spark. Does the relay need replaced? Is there anyway to test the relay?

"status as of now " busted420a powered by: 25g, crane cams valve springs retainers, ported head, ported manifold, oversize valves, 60mm tb, je pistions eagle rods, total seal rings, afx pulley, aem cam gears, spearco fmic, turbo xs bov, msd coil and wires, craptech

Have you tried checking the voltage on the cam and crank sensor...I believe they should be around 6.6v or something and the coil pack should get 12 v on crank.

Are you getting any CEL's? are you sure the fuel pump is primmed, you should be able to hear it on key turn.

Hit me up on AIM...ma bey I can help you out.

Close.

Backprobe the CMP and CKP. You should get an alternating 5VDC while cranking. CMP is easier to see, as the cams turn at 1/2 crank speed. You can backprobe at the sensors, themselves, or at the ECU connector. Use the schematics in your Chilton's/FSM to know where. Lose either of these sensors - even intermittently - and the ECU will trip the ASD. You should have a code in either situation, as these are serious malfunctions and present a no-run situation.

The ASD relay is located on the firewall next to the fuel pump relay. Instructions for testing a relay can be found by searching this board and/or Google.

yeah ive plugged in my obd2 scanner and it shows all codes passed. But i will try back probing the sensors. And yes the fuel pump is primed.
