What's up guys. I am going turbo soon and decided to install my walbro fuel pump today and had lots of problems. I am still a little dizzy from all the gas fumes I inhaled but the end result was that I finally got the fuel pump to fit in the fuel tank after cutting off a big chunk off of the brass hose but now the car will not start. The fuel pump makes a loud noise which I guess means it's priming up but the car does not start. I search on here but cannot find what may be wrong. I used the wiring plug that was supplied with the new walbro and I also used the new rubber piece which was supplied. I noticed in some pics that it looks like some guys use the old rubber bottom piece. Can that be why the car is not starting up? I also keep reading on here something about a ring which must be oiled and secured to make sure that the fuel does not leak out of the pump but I am unsure as to which ring this is. Can anyone help me out?

It's been a long time since I did this. What brass hose are you talking about cutting, I'm trying to remember? The only thing I remember doing is drilling another hole in the bracket that holds the pump in place because the walbro is longer than the stocker. Thinking back some more, maybe shorting up the rubber hose in the tank that the pump attaches to also is a problem solver for fitment.

What else did you do when installing the fuel pump, did you unplug the relays under the hood, or just the plug in the back on the top of the tank. The pump is loud when priming, so it sounds like your problem may lie elsewhere.

I did not unplug any relays under the hood. I just unplugged the the back and top of the tank. One thing that I did which I am not sure about is that the vfaq says to start the car after disconnecting the fuel hose to lessen the spill of gas once you take the rest of the stuff off. I did this and the car shut off like it was supposed to but then I restarted the car twice just to make sure the line was empty. I'm not sure if this dried out the injectors too much.
The brass line which I cut really has nothing to do with the fuel pump's operation. I just had to do it because the pump did not want to fit at all even after I cut a the hose a little bit and redrilled a new hole. I searched on here and found out that if your gas pan has taken a large blow it can dent upwards giving your fuel pump less space in the tank. This must have happened to my gas tank because the pump did not want to fit at all until I cut the brass metal bell looking line a little. Someone on here posted that they had to that because their pump was bottoming out also.

You should re-install your pump the proper way. Redrilling the bracket hole isn't the best solution.
I already did that. I had to cut that brass bell looking thing because my pump did not want to go in all the way. So the fitment is no longer an issue.
The problem now is that I hear the pump prime up when I turn the key halfway but when I try to start the car it only cranks but it doesn't turn over. I'm gonna check fuses tomorrow to see if I may have blown a fuse anywhere but I really don't have a clue what could be wrong. Can anyone give me more info on the ring which I have read needs to be oiled. I'm still confused about which ring this is.

UPDATE: Went out this morning and put the factory harness and rubber ring on the walbro and it worked fine. I honestly think that the harness which came with the walbro was causing the pump not to work. The whole install was not that difficult but it had a few snags along the way which turned it into a big pain in the ass. Thanks for the help guys.
