#104415, "Splash Sheild ? removal"

I had the bumper off and this plastic flap is taking up most of the radiator, I was wondering if it is a splash sheild or is it okay to take off i'm trying to help keep the motor as cool as possible wondering if it would help by removing? All it seems to do is take air up through the hood into the hood not in the even in the engine bay.

Thanks
Brandon.

I would leave it in, think I remember reading somewhere that it actually helps direct the air flow to the radiator. There's not going to be any significant difference once the bumper is re-installed anyway.

simple take it off if you don't have an ac condenser, leave it in if you do.

it's an air guide, not a splash shield. leaving it in actually helps unless you're going with a big mouth body kit or something that would make it obvious and detract from the looks, even then I would just modify it to make the edges go away. If you're dead set on taking it off I need one, mine got destroyed

i just recently read an article on these. What they do i redirect the air to the radiator, otherwise a good amount of air is pushed to the sides and bottom of the radiator. Won't be a problem without it though.

Well then I guess I don't need it since I've got a 2Gb nose, maybe an underbelly pan tho. anyone know about that?

My 2Gb has one. I was even thinking about modifying it so that it would seal better around the radiator.

I guess i can see how it pushes the air to the radiator once the bumper is on. But i think without it there would be more air flow inside the engine bay to help keep it cooler.

You really shouldn't worry about that. With the guard off, instead of air passing through the radiator it would spill around it. So you would have airflow in the center, but no where else. Besides, at speed you will have the same airflow through the bumper if it were on or off and that would equate to the roughly same flow into the engine bay.

More effecient cooling would keep engine bay temps down.
