I have a P1390 code (timing skipped a tooth or more) I have done the farmers version of checking for TDC (small steel rod and rotating motor)And when the piston #1 (closest to the t belt) is at TDC both cam gears are perfectly aligned at their centers. So its my understanding that as long as all these pieces line up my engine is "in time". Correct me if I am wrong. I have replaced the cam sensor, coolant temp sensor, & crank angle sensor, and still get the code. My car runs and idles just fine until it gets up to operating temperature. Then it runs like ass. Could this be a bad O2 sensor, thats messing with the timing? Could this be because my coil and or wires are going bad? Did I get a shitbox sensor?? Or do I need to adjust my timing. Im just not thinking its out of time, because it runs fine when its cold, but once the ECU goes to open loop it rums like crap. Do I need to reset my ECU because of the new sensors? I have left the battery unplugged overnight and erased the 1390 but it comes back on once the car warms up....... HELP PS sorry for the long post.

Could it be my MAP sensor??? Or my EGR blockoff? Ive tested the harness on the crank angle sensor and its fine. Everything Ive searched for seems to point to the timing being off. But it doesnt make sense.

sounds like the timing is actually off, my car did the same thing when I messed up the timing, I had the belt correct at the cams but I was a tooth off at the crank. ran great cold but would kick on the light and run like crap after it warmed, I had a scratch on my crank sprocket that looked exactly like the timing mark that's why I messed it up.

Okay I have never messed with the timing, other than for this problem. Ive tore it apart, im to the pulling the crank pulley... How does it just "skip a tooth", does this mean my tensioner took a crap or has my belt stretched??? I prolly need to replace the belt, I have 120k and havent changed it yet.... THX

Probably should have been replaced 30k miles ago.
Either the tensioner took a crap or the belt streched.

Actually... should have replaced it 60k ago. Timing belts become an increasing risk every mile you go past 60k. In this case, while it might be frustrating, it sounds like you dodged a bullet, Iowa.
Pick up a new belt, pullies, and tensioner. I've had a tensioner shit the bed on me. We set timing dead nuts and after about two or three starts, the car was tits up. The good news is, you can visit the Parts Dinosaur's site online and get all the stuff you need for cheap compared to a dealership and he ships super fast. You might have it in time for the weekend.
Remember to use the Chrysler Harmonic Damper puller tool from Autozone (free rental) to get that crank pulley off without a major headache.

120k and it hasn't snapped? holy shit you got lucky! my belt got changed at 60k before I got the car and at almost 120k exactly the tensioner and idler both took a dump. luckily I had everything ready to go, I had just been waiting for the weekend to do the job. luckily nothing was damaged internally.

How can I tell if the tensioners bad? I can see that it has a bit of rust near the plunger... Can I clean it and WD40 it? I dont want to waste $80-some dollars if its not needed.
I have had the car for nearly 8 years, and only drive it about 5-6 months a year. I have had NO problems at all until the last 15-20k miles....So i quess i have been lucky
