Did you try a 'WET' test for the compression? I believe a wet test can help single out a ring problem. You'll have to put a little oil in the cylinder and do it again. Im not sure how much, but maybe about a teaspoon, or 2 squirts from one of those oil things. Research it if you dont already know.

here's a link http://www.aa1car.com/library/compression.htm

Im NOT saying low compression is the NOT problem. Cuz i really dont know one way or the other. But...
I have a Ford ranger that has bad rings/compression, but it starts.
My current eclipse has some compression problems, and it starts and runs, ok i guess.

my last test was:

1 2 3 4
Dry 160 175 177 190
Wet 194 230 220 260

THose numbers really aren't that bad. Factory service level is <100psi. Sure they're a bit on the lower end of what's considered 'good' compression, but they are all close and not what would be considered 'bad'

Did you do this after the engine was warmed up?

For best results, start it, let it warm up to normal operating temps, then do the compression test at WOT.

Damn, I thought 180 was the low end... and here I am thinking that I only have 1 low cylinder when they are all great!

I guess I just have the magical mystery evil possessed engine... 207k showing 195,195,180,195.

im in the process of buying the parts, im planning on running a td06h, 20g. so my setup may look something like this

JE pistons (.020 over)
Eagle H beam forged rods
All the boring work and polishing the block and crank
Crane 16's
not sure on what cam gears
stainless steel valves, oversized
rocker arms, retainers, springs, all that fun stuff
all the machine work that has to be dont to the head
replace all the gaskets
stud kits
replace the pumps
replace the old tubes
and the upgrade that i feel most proud of is getting a 2002 neon tranny to support the top end power!!!

so what u guys think, i know i wasnt specific but that is because i am still researching on differnt things

thanks!!
