I'm a little confused here....the fan that sits on the driver's side of the engine in my car, crapped out. I always thought that was the main fan and that the one toward the passenger seat was the A/C fan which only comes on once in a while when the a/c is on or when the temperature gets way too hot.
I took my car to get the fan replaced after it finally gave out and Satan didn't have the part so they had to special order it. Will not be here till maybe Monday or most likely Tuesday.
They took out the bad fan, now I am running without the fan on the driver's side for at least 3 days, but they told me that it should be ok because it's just the condenser fan and the other one is fine.
I drove the car home and it did not overheat...but I am still confused because i always thought that the driver's side fan was the main fan and the condenser was on the passenger's side, which if its right then my condenser fan didn't crap out, my Main fan crapped out!
Not to mention that the condenser fan is twice as expensive also.
Anyways, I guess my questions are: Who is right here..me or them....am i driving around without my mAIN fan?, if so that's kind of scary!..I actually opened the hood when i got home and saw the one fan left (passenger's side) was not on....so that confirms for me that THAT is the condenser fan.
Regardless of that, should i even be driving with just the passenger's side fan? should i keep the a/c on to force it to kick in? or should i leave it off and avoid the extra stress?

I just got a hold of a Chilton's and turns out i was wrong....the one in the driver's side is indeed the condenser fan. I guess as long as I keep the a/c off I should be ok? I guess because it looked much bigger i thought it would be the main fan.
Kinda hard not to use the a/c here in FL but I guess I'll live for 4 days....

Thanx Dino, good to know I was right after all. Reason I got it off Satan was because on Friday they told me they could get it by monday and with all the overheating issues my car has had, i didn't think i could run with one fan only, let alone start to look for a used one since i wasn't sure by when I'd find one.
If I had known it was going to run ok with just one I would have waited a bit and tried here first....

I have a fan out also. The condenser fan, the one on the passenger side. Haven't had any trouble with the car overheating, or running above normal. Its all good. (in case anyone ever wondered)

dunno if i read it right, but is the dealership charging you for the condenser fan? Because obviously you don't need one of those, you need a main fan, and if the condenser fan is twice as expensive, that sounds like a scam.

Ok so the final verdict is that the fan on the passenger side is the condenser fan and the fan on the driver side is the main fan.
I was wondering which was which but never got around to actually finding out.

My A/C system is removed as a weight reduction and to take some of that pull off of the engine. Most say its stupid to do that but my A/c system was having a lot of problems and I felt it was easier to remove it rather than to pay to have it fixed. (Now I have a 2-80 air conditioner... 2 windows down-80mph)

Sorry to get off the main topic but it would be safe to remove the passenger side fan given my situation. Correct???

Its still a safeguard against excessive engine temps. and since its electrical, not belt driven, there really isn't any load on the engine besides on the battery. and it doesn't weigh much so there isn't any point in weight reduction (especially in the front)

so, its prolly safe to do so long as you keep an eye on the temps, but is it worth it? nah.
