Is it possible to install a set of cams that have the same duration of lift etc into my Mitsu and still pass the smog?
If these 2 motors are pretty much identical (Other than installed backwards) I should be able to extract that extra 10 hp putting me at 150 at the crank by haveing a cam installed that provides the same amount of breathing right?
And nooo I don't get my hands dirty that's what shops are for thank you!
If smog would be a problem would'nt tunning the ecm bring down the smog just under the levels I need to pass or is it even worth a shot for an 10 extra hp?
I had a Neon roll up on me like a bat outa hell one day and I'm sure it was one of the better Neons
Fast looking car Slow motor was mitsu thinking???
I swear that Subaru STi is looking better everyday....

you could be surprised they do fit physically in the 420a head and once your timming belt is done properly your 420a will turn like a neon engine with a new twist it will suck air in from the exhaust manifold and you will have bad smoke comming out of the intake manifold !!!!!!
I know because it happened to an Avenger owner last years who tried to see what would happen if he put neon camshafts ...

The very first time I did cams about 4 or 5 years ago now, I was sent the wrong ones, neon cams and not eclipse cams and I didn't notice the difference in part numbers.
This is EXACTLY what happened to my car! the airflow was backwards through the engine, But all I had to do was swap in the right cams and it was all set, no damage.

You prolly got Pzwned by an SRT4, not just a neon "with better cams". Turbo your car, and save time and money. (Im not turbo myself, but I dont give a rats ass about ricer boys doing fly by's on me either)

Noooo guys I was talking about the grind not swaping cams!
See I kinda figred I could get 10-12 extra hp by getting my cams ground to the same stock grind as a Neon to allow my engine to breathe and still be clean smog wise as the Neon which has 150 to the crank.

OH! well that makes more sense, you never said anything about the grind. just get some decent street grind performance cams, it'll probably do you better than having custom cams made to neon factory specs, I believe the comp cams NA street cams are just a longer duration than our factory cams and with intake/ exhaust are worth something like 15-20 crank hp

So what ya think???
neon dohc do have a little bit more hot cam profile but the 10 hp difference come also from 1 exhaust is better because it's a more straight line 2 intake manifold has shorter runners 3 different timming profile in the computer 4 tuned for premium fuel
get crane #12 for a nice gain on a stock head with stock springs

the newer "magnum" engines have higher compression, they are the ones that are tuned for premium fuel, the exhaust and intake manifolds are better designed, and the crank pulley is lighter, they are rated at 150hp, the 150hp on the 1g neons is a little bit of a more liberal statement from Chrysler, My mom drives a 03 neon rt, that is a nice little NA car and its only SOHC
lets compair the 03 neon RT to a 98 talon Esi...

i know this isnt the awnser to your Question but if you really want to show up the ricers that challenge you and be able to pass smog just get a 50 shot of nitrous and pull it out when you get it tested. the reason a neon would beat you is your car weighs at least 200lbs more than the neon even if you have the lightest rs and i think some gs's could even weigh like 400lbs more than a neon (this is in reference to a first generation neon the weight posted above is a second gen and they are heavier i dont know what you raced but if its a newer one it might be because your car is a little older and doesnt make the full 140 horses any more). our engine is not like a v8 a cam will not make very much power in an otherwise unmodified engine when they do the testing for that horse power number the engine is usually modified and only lacks in whatever part the company advertises
