SO...Haven't posted a tech question about my old RS in a while, but I'm stumped on this one.
My beautiful blue RS is now in TX under dad's possesion until he can buy himself a new car. A family of DSM's..how great...back on topic
While in TX dad was telling me that his motor mounts keep breaking and he doesn't know why. We get her up on jack stands to check whats going on underneath but no luck. I don't see any frame bends, the mounts were bolted down snug with no play. According to dad, the tranny mount keeps breaking, as does the firewall mount. I suggested he buy the solid motor mounts but he wants it to remain OEM and bone stock.

wow what kind of torque do you have, surprising your mounts will actually break? and not something on the tranny, tell you dad to stop launching the car on crappy roads and make sure you torque down all the bolts to the proper amounts.....A long time ago my dad told me that the sold mounts would be a bad idea because they wouldn't transfer the energy from the engine to the chassis properly and thats why they have those groves in them, well I went and bought the inserts, along with all polyurethane bushings and they gave the car a completely different feel, both and power and cornering, If you ever auto cross I strongly recommend sold suspension bushings, there is a reason the inserts are polyurethane. Also lowering you car helps with reducing stress on drive train components IMO If you do like to launch the car with street tires, get something like a phantom grip LSD

i noticed this on my car. i was constantly breaking the firewall mount. i then used an engine hoist to hold the engine and pulled ALL the mounts. 3 of 4 were torn and the front was just flapping around completly free. i replaced the front with the solid AFX mount, and the rest with Prothane inserts. engine dont move now
if he wants to retain the stock look you can get the Prothane mounts in BLACK instead of red.
i recomend Prothane because the inserts are 2 piece unlike Energy Suspension which are one piece and you have to press in.
