#103549, "CAI made into SRI"

Hey guys, I bought an AEM CAI from a member here and I've had it for awhile but havn't installed it because the weather here sucks right now. Anyway, before i got it he said he cut it in half so that he could switch it to a SRI when he needed to. My question is...Is this safe? Will i lose any gains if any? What should i make sure of?

The part where he cut it doesn't look so good because it's not so straight so what should I do to fix it? I will post a pic tomorrow to show you.

Thanks!
I did the search on it but it's really late so im sorry if this bothers you.

Oh wow....

You won't hurt anything as long as you remember to move the filter.... *twitches*

As far as any "loss" in performance, you won't notice it. You would notice if you sucked up water though. That shit doesn't compress very well...

Are you asking us if the straightness of the cut matters? If so, no.

Um...well I did close to the same thing the guy you bought it from did, only a bit better. It looks like he took a dremel to it and cut the pipe where I took a pipe cutter to it, made a straight cut and sanded it smooth, then took a tig welder and welded a bead around the end so the filter or rest of intake (whichever you are using the CAI or SRI) will stay on better.

If I was in your position I would sand the end of the pipe smooth so tiny shards of metal won't brak off easily and you won't tear the filter fitting either.

Like Kain said you shouldn't notice a big difference performance wise between a CAI & SRI. I believe this has been covered already elsewhere though. Hope this helps you.
