i've had nothing but troubles with my 5spd tranny 2 clutches failed from new and now it is kicking outta 5th gear. i want to jsut swap it to an automatic if i can. Local junkyards want way too much for a MT. what all is different? what all do i need besides AT and torque converter? Or if any of you know where i can buy a 5spd for cheap let me know.

I swapped an RS 5 speed to an auto recently. Just have to pull the engine wiring harness from under the hood all the way back to where they plug in under the radio. Swap that,replace the ecu with the ecu/tcm from the auto,the gauge cluster and of course the auto transmission with the mounts and shifter assembly. You will need a tranny cooler too if you're still running the radiator for the 5 speed. That's all I can think of right now but let me know if you need some help...

what kinda money did it cost to do? the 5spd pedals are still ok right jsut have the clutch pedal dead? cv joints still the same? what changes to center console do i need? jsut remove boot and that is where the auto shifter goes or is it a different shape console? why do you need to change the gauges?

I had 2 complete cars to begin with, one 5 speed and one auto. The pedals will work but would be best to find an auto in a junk yard somewhere to get the brake pedal made for the auto. CV joints are the same. As far as the console, all you really need is the shifter assembly under the console and the linkage, take out your shift boot and it will work fine.5 speed gauges have a 9k tach, auto has 8k, you can actually just swap in a tach from an auto so your mileage stays accurate.

the tach wont work at all? doesn't really both me if it shifts before the tach syas its redlined. with an automatic i don't need the tach all that much anyways. the car drives to usaci stereo comps and then home and parks in the garage waiting on the next show.

Man thanks for looking that up for me but at this point I am trying to get one a bit cheaper or I am just gonna put the auto in. I believe mine is bad this time tho from what i read because of wrong fluid. I went cheap and shouldnt have. Now it pops outta 5th and is noisy.
