Alright, my problem is that I'll be running my car and the temp. stays at a normal level but after a little while of driving and I go to turn it off and then turn it back on the temp. shoots up to 250 degrees. I was just wondering if you guys could help me out any. Sorry if this question is in the wrong place or stupid. Thanks for your help.

If the temp gauge is jumping all over the place on you, turn your heater on full blast and check the temperature of the air coming out the vents. If it's not hot (or barely warm), then chances are good that you have a leaky radiator cap which is allowing steam to escape the system. This leads to air pockets in your cooling system and, when the car is up to temp, steam fills those air pockets. Steam is hotter than boiling water, so when it goes past the temp sensor for the gauge, the gauge will spike, but you won't get the hot air from the heater.

The other cause could just be that the gauge temp sensor is crapping out on you. Good news! It's less than $25 at Autozone.
