#103309, "Anyone ever broke your crankshaft pulley?"
I had the puller on the pulley trying to get it off, then all of a sudden the lip that one of the puller arms was one broke. I had the puller on according to the haynes manual. You could stick your finger and feel the flat spot where to place it at, but the flat place just broke out in a chunk.
What do I do now? Any suggestions? I can't get it off with just to arms on the pulley. I didn't work on it today b/c I knew that I was gonna get aggervated with it. Oh well, looks like Im gonna have to give Howell a call.

what was the puller pushing on? It should not be on ANY face. It should be pushing on a pin that goes INTO the crank. If not your pushing on the pulley to pull its sides off.

You're pushing on the pulley itself while at the same time trying to remove it...trust me
Don't use a three jaw puller, just go rent the appropriate chrysler harmonic dampner removal tool

Sorry for the off-topic rant, but something needed to be said.

Cut it off. I've used an pneumatic cutoff wheel to do this.. it ain't easy, but it eventually came off. A torch might help, too.

If the puller isn't perfectly centered, you're going to need several times more force to get it off. That's why most pullers have a pointed centering cap for the crank hole.

My friend that took his off a couple times said to leave the bolt in w/ it back away from the pulley about 1/4 of an inch, then attach the puller arms, center the puller shaft on the bolt, then back it off. It worked for him and my other friend everytime.
Am I missing something? I done it like the haynes manual has it. I appreciate all the input guys. BTW, where could I rent the chrysler puller. I don't have an auto zone around here. The closest one is like 75 miles or so from here.
