today when i got off work, my ride had been sittin for about 5 hours. when i went to start it, i just got clicks, the engine wouldnt turn over. it was like 40 degrees outside

i stopped, then tried again, and clicks.

popped the hood, took a look if anything looked out of place, and i checked all the sensors i could see to see if they had been disconnected.

got back into the car, tried to start it. it clicked like 5 times, then wanted to turn over, so i kept the key and clutch in, then she fired up.

is my starter goin bad?
do i need to replace my battery?

any help is appreciated

My car did that when the battery died. Check the battery first then test your starter.

I had that happen with my old car. We are always warm here in FL and the car would start fine. I was working nights and got off at 8am and went to start it and it just clicked. It was down in the 40's all night and the battery didn't have enough juice to crank it. I had to get a jump start and it was fine.

so im thinkin its the battery. i still have the one that came with the car (stock).

is that why they call it "cold crankin amps?"

ima buy a new battery tomorrow, and see if that helps.

If its not the battery and its a deal where you try it and sometimes it turns over and sometimes it doesn't even try (just a click) then its probably because the armature on the starter is going (new starter).

Usually it's lack of battery voltage. Old batteries get weaker, and cold conditions tend to exascerbate these problems. Have your battery and alternator checked (they usually do it at no charge) and buy a new battery.

it turns out that the battery was only pushin 7.xx volts under load so i swapped in a new one.

the stock batery has 430 cold crankin amps. new one's got 630.

40 degrees in Vegas? I thought it only dropped to mid 50's at night in the desert? You're still lucky, it's been as cold as a witches tit out here the past few nights.....
