im finally to the point where all my parts are here and i can actually rebuild the engine.
since this is my first ever rebuild i have questions through talking to howell and my machinist, i know the main bearings i got are correct. and the crank is ground and straight.
after following corbins rebuild post to the letter, i go and try to spin the crank and it is really tight. (well to me atleast)
i cannot find the spec in my manual for the crankshaft drag. i figure its not suposed to be able to freespin but i though it should be able to move by hand. it is a smooth rotation with no bindings
from my masurements it takes me 16 ftlbs to get it spinning and then 10 to keep it going.
(yes the pistons arent attached)
thnks in advance

Have you plastigauged your bearing clearances and checked them against the factory spec?
high crank drag is a sign of tight clearances.

yep 0.0015 (+- 0.0002) in 2 places each bearing

Sounds about right. I couldn't spin them by the crank snout, but if i pushed on a counterweight it would move freely.
What about your thrust clearances?

cant remember the clearences off hand but there were within spec.
the crank has loosened up a bit and now take about 6ftlbs to keep spinning. we think that the assembly lube was just tight at first and once we moved it around a bit it got better
thanks to everybody who replied
