This weekend my car started to squel near the timing belt area. I took part of the cover of and the belt is in bad shape. So I have a few questions
1) what the hell is the noise coming from? and how to fix it. (It sounds as if it is coming from the cam gears if that helps) 2) what parts do I need to do the belt and also where can I get them and approximate cost. (I have like no money but have to do the belt this saturday. I went to mitsu and they gave me a price of 138$ for one of the pulleys I was like hell no)
I am just doing the timing belt the acc. belt and water pump I will do a little later as they are still in good shape and as stated before I have no $.
BTW the car has 67,xxx miles. TIA Nathan I posted a similar topic a week or so ago but can't find it and have not had a comp since then.

OK I gotta go to work so I might miss something. You can get the belts anywhere. It's going to be about $100. Might as well put a water pump too. If you really want to be be safe(good idea) get a tensioner too.(can't remember price) Go get a 5 ton puller from parts store. Just rent it. It's like $40 and you get it back. You'll need a vice to compress the tensioner. Metric tools. Mechanic gloves are nice or just bleed. Lastly 6pack of decent beer or 12 pack if you have a buddy(highly recommended). W/O seeing the belt, I can't tell you what's making the noise. Timing belts typically don't make noise until they break. Oh BTW the acc belts are like 15 a piece. Hope this helps!

Well your noise could be coming from one of the pulleys in there. Either the tensioner pulley, or the timing belt idler pulley. Possibly could be the water pump starting to go out too, so I def would replace that, its not much money. I believe my timing belt at Napa was about 75 bucks. The pulleys I would def change also, the tensioner pulley was like a hundred(it came with the whole bracket assembly), and the idler pulley was 20 something. Water pump was 40 something. If you are really strapped for cash, do the timing belt, both pulleys, and if the noise isn't the water pump, you could let that go i guess. The dealership told me that they never heard of the actual tensioner body going bad, so take that for what its worth..Check out my timing belt how to in my signature to help you out too..The alternator and acc belts are like 15 and 8 bucks for em, def change those while its all apart.
