The Eclipse (Bonnie) went down for the count in September. Exploded piston (#1) snapped rod in 3 places, hole from cylinder wall into water jacket,anda rod through the block. All in all it was a bad day. Had to run around like a retard to get her off of the side of I-95 55 miles north of the Florida border (in GA).
Well 4 months and about 5 grand later my fully built engine is in thumping between the fender wells. Sounds absolutely disgusting with the Crower stage 2's, I LOVE IT.
Build list as follows:
Eagle standard length H beams Wiseco 10.5:1 .020" over pistons Block bored to match pistons (obviously) Balanced rotating assembly Full P&P head with 3 angle VJ milled .010" ARP head studs Crane springs and retainers SBI rockers and lifters (adjusters and followers) Crower stage 2 cams AEM adjustable cam gears AFX UDP. Pacesetter ceramic coated headers. ARP header studs for intake and exhaust. Hand ported TB. test pipe. N1 cat back (2.5") Symborski shifter kit B&M short throw AEM CAI PD mechanical timing tensioner Melling high volume Oil pump OEM water pump Savannah Clutch stage 3+ non modular (6 puck ceramic disc)
Deleted: AC EVAP EGR Cruise splash shields cut top off of timing covers to open access to adjustable cam gears
But yeah back on topic I tightened up the last bolt and topped off all the fluids today then fired her up. It was the sweetest sound in the world to hear her come to life. So I let her run at about 2500 rpm for 20 minutes then changed the oil. Now I'm going for 1000 miles on the rebuild before I change her over to Royal Purple. Never again will I run dino oil after that.
I have a small vid I did on my phone but I don't know how well it turned out yet but if it's good I'll post it up here later.

It's actually a stock Eclipse flywheel that Savannah Clutch uses. They drill out the rivits Tap the new holes and reassemble using some nice 10.9 Allen head bolts.
And I'll definately be getting MSnS and a MSD DIS2 with taxes.

Very nice. Can't say I agree with your initial break in proceedure, since there really isn't any loading on the rings when you free-rev and hold it like that, but to each his own. With all the modern technology out there these days, I doubt break in really necessary at all on these modern motors. Until someone has the money to try two methods on identical engines at the same time and then tear them apart to inspect them, we'll never know for sure.

I did that more for the cams than the rings. Immediately after changing the oil I went for a short ride doing some moderate 2nd gear accels and decels, then let her cool down fully. Now I am just driving her normally, not pushing her too hard til I hit my magic number of miles and change the oil again with the purple stuff.

Dont waste your money on the purple oil. I bought a whole case of that shit from Summit Racing thinking it was something special. Just use some synthetic oil and you'r fine!

Oh I know I just prefer it to the other synthetics I've used. Besides I get a good discount on the shit (and I love the pretty color LOL)
Edit* And on a side note If deleting AC while choosing to keep power steering with the AFX UDP use a Dayco belt PN 5050380 (available at Advance auto parts) for the power steering only. Since the power steering pump pivots on the mount you use the pump to put tension on the belt. I only used one hand to pull on the pump while tightening the upper bolt with the other. keep in mind that it does not require a huge amount of tension, and if it is too tight it can pop off randomly. I have had no issues with slipping belt thus far.
