#102537, "need help bad on begining path!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I have a 96 rs I've done exh. and intak
ok here's the deal.. first of all 1. Im on a budget AND 2. I need my car running sooner then latter but have down time for a few months since it did take a shit on me, water in the CAI locked eng.long story. But I want to rebuild it for turbo 'But' the first part im going to need to get it running first. I have 1000.00 to spend ( and thats 200 more then the wife knows about)now and want to step in the right direction. do I 10.5 or 8.8 and just put around till I peace all my turbo together or will it piss me off being slow and stupped. Second, talk to a few places but found http://www.rpmmachine.com/engine-rebuild-kits-eagle.shtml for rebuild kit at good price and mostly assembaled head minus cam at the same plae but its all stock. im sick of reading and seaching so just belittle me now so at least I can get some were some feed back is better then uncertenty.....

I think you answered your own question.

well by now, you already know that it's pretty damn slow, IMO how much slower can it get with a bit lower compression? Either way you're not going to be beating anyones ass at 8.8, 9.6, or 10.5 and remaining fairly stock otherwise. If you are sure you want to go turbo, then go for the 8.8 from the start. 10.5 plus turbo will probably result in more headaches than it's worth unless you're really good at tuning and have a good way to tune (ie MSnS)

BTW welcome to the site

I notice a huge change, as I am still riding around with 8:8 cr. Definetly welcome too man. You found the best site for our cars, research, set some goals for what you want to do, and we'll go from there. Make sure you check out the main page wiki as well. It's fairly new, but we are getting more and more info on there.

8:8 is easier to tune. 10:5 is used for if you want to go all motor. Stick with the 8:8 and deal with it being slow until you can finish it.

ok i guess the question is now is do i focuses on a stock head and 8.8 forged postons and rods and the reast of the reabuild kit stock? also hs any one heard about that rpm michne co. before and is a stock head minus cams and engine rebiuld kit that they quoted me for 795.00 a good deal or is there something else that would be suggested to get indted

There's more to a rebuild than just buying the parts. Remember that, once you have the rebuild kit, there will need to be machine work done to the block before you can assemble it. Will those bottom end kits come with bearings? New oil pump? New water pump? You have new timing belt components ready to go? Rebuilding the bottom end is going to be a stretch on a grand, but you can probably do it.

To give you an idea, my machine work - clean, deck, bore, hone, freeze plugs, balance and assy (only pistons/rods/crank/bearings) - ran me just a hair under $500.

Invest that $1000 in community college classes and get yourself an English degree so it's easier for you to read and write. That $1k won't even get you halfway towards a turbo engine rebuild, let alone the turbo system itself.

300 is a big number for turbo too. You are still looking a lot more than a grand. There is nothing wrong with building a low comp engine, Letting it break in then slapping on a turbo. Then build it up till you hit your 300 mark.

Good call on the car center on base. The one I can use just got new air tools emoji

We will build you bigger and stronger
