#102227, "Timing Changes After Milling ?"
Dec-11-06 08:11 AM by foggy45

i took the block and head in to be cleaned and inspected and was told that the head and block are warped (yes hes a reputable engine machinist/builder so i trust him)
hes gonna be taking 2 thousandths off EACH

so with a total of .004 of metal gone, how much does this increase my compression and will this affect my timing?
mainly do i need to get adj cams or will somthing like an SAFC be able to componsate for it?

thanks in advance

Pretty tough to warp an our block. It usually cracks first. I'd go to a different machinist with straight tools.

What pistons (and where did you get them), rods, and head gasket do you plan to use?

i have no idea of the history of this engine prior to when i bought it 60k ago to replace one i blew. the head is from the previous engine that i saved and turned out was in better shape then the head i just took off.
this is a stock rebuild (was having reliability issues with engine) and i want to make sure everything gets hammered out before i put my expensive turbo parts in, plus i still have a few things yet to buy for the Boost project.

pistons =stock rebuild kit from howell (std size)
rods= stock
HG= Mopar MLS gasket / with cut bolts

.004 no problem with timing. He may want to do the block just to be sure. MANY machinists do this to be on the safe side.

An AFC is an Air Flow Converter, not something to compensate for timing changes.

If you do not mind spending a little extra dough, buy ARP head Studs to replace the bolts as well. A safe investment.
