#102181, "expert help needed, harness questions"

I posted earlier about a problem I diagnosed to be the MAP sensor, but after installing a new one I still have the problem. I've checked all the harnesses and couldn't see anything wrong. Unplugging the MAP sensor has no effect on the engine and it idles horribly and won't rev above 3500. I'm getting codes 14 and 15 for MAP sensor and idle speed sensor, and I pulled the idle speed out yesterday and cleaned it so i'm thinking it must be a harness issue. I feel like the plug in this pic is supposed to be plugged into something but i have no idea what:

I cant really see that harness, but that looks like the harness that comes off the little piece thats bolted to the block, I think its some kind of anti-vibration dampner or some kind of ground dampner, I dont exactly know what it is, lol, but that looks like what it is.

im very far from an expert, but i think that plug goes into the noise condenser that screws into the valve cover. If so then this is part of the radio system.

probably wouldn't affect my idle then. anybody know a good dsm mechanic or member in the boston quincy area? i need to get this fixed but i don't want to take it to some mechanic who doesn't know 2gnt's and pay twice as much for hime to figure it out.

Talon749 is correct, it is a capacitor that reduces RF hum generated by the engine, so the AM radio sounds better.
Eclipse982 I don't see how the AM radio has anything to do with vibration. The radio capacitor uses the engine block as a ground, if that's what you mean.

OP, if you disconnected the MAP or speed sensors and it didn't change anything, you might want to test or replace the sensor.

Also, why is your harness electrical taped together? You know your harness is too sensitive to have anything but soldered and shrink-wrapped waterproof connections right?

i didn't tape those together, it was like that when i bought it. Are those sensor wires and should I solder them?

what are you trying to solder? My advice would be to just plug everything in where it should be, and replace sensors accordingly, make sure you have everything put together right before you go out buying expensive sensors!

i unplugged the battery and then plugged it back in with the key on and i'm pretty sure i heard the idle air sensor turn on...should it just sound like an electric motor spinning at that point? because that's what i heard. i just put a brand new MAP sensor in so that isn't the problem. If my throttle body gasket was shot would that cause the check engine light to come on and throw sensor codes??

Honestly im not too sure about the MAP sensor, but I had a blown TB gasket and it was causing a lot of problems with the IAC, Ended up just needed cleaned. The MAP I think, would be shot if its throwing a CEL for it.

well, the map sensor is brand new, so it could be gone but i don't think so. were you getting codes when your t.b. gasket was messed up or was it just running poorly? i'll pick up a new one and see if that is the problem.

if the sensor is brand new then don't get a new one. I was actually getting codes for my IAC when my gasket was messed up.

also try cleaning to IAC with some electrical parts cleaner, and check its wires to make sure they arnt messed up, they sit really close to the egr tube.

Any sufficient vacuum leak can cause a code 25.

hey bro, why dont you try just replacing all vac lines, its dirt cheap 15 bucks from RRE, my idle a couple of months ago was all out of wack, once i replaced the vac lines it was steady. Is the map sensor mopar? or is it some aftermarket autozone/napa crap? (wells). Try getting the reading with a multimeter from your iac and map to see if its within spec regardless if its new or not. the last thing you want to do is throw your money at the dealer..
