Hey guys, so after I put my rebuilt engine back into my talon I blew the headgasket on the maiden voyage. It overheated on the highway and by the time I had glanced at the temp gauge it was nearing Hot very quickly so I pulled over and shut the car off.

After getting it towed home I took a look at the engine bay and realized that one of my metal pipes that goes to the heater core had been damaged somehow causing it to leak all the fluid out

So I removed the head and inspected the gasket with my father (automechanic of 30+ years) and he had me bring it to a machine shop.

The guy knew his stuff there and does real good work. He told me the head
had been pretty badly warped and that he milled it down so that it was fine now.
I was not able to find out by how much he milled it but he told me to use a regular headgasket for it.
My question is, is there an approxiamate figure of how much this will up my compression or will I have to run a compression test on it? Has anyone else had a warped head milled down and gotten good results?

The head would have to be milled signifigantly in order to affect any compression increases worth mentioning. Once the head is installed, do a compression test and report back with the numbers. That might make it easier to figure out. Especially when you dont know how much material was removed.

Realistically, to flatten a heat warped head you should only have to take off a few thousandths. Any more than that and a skilled automotive machinist would likely recommend a replacement.

Okay thats actually better to hear than if it were to up my compression significantly. I was worried that my timing would be off and I'd have to buy new adjustable cam sprockets to compensate for it. I'm not completely fluent with the machining aspect of automotive work so I wasn't sure how much you'd have to mill a heat warped head.

Had to order a roller today as well cuz one of those little buggers escaped while i was taking out the head. 11.75, not TOO bad, at least i didnt have to order 16 lol
