Hey guys, I just got done getting a seperate head built up with all the goodies in hope that my diesel sounding head ticking problem will go away after 3 years of annoyance. Well when I went to pick up my head yesterday from being finished and costing me 300 bux, my machinist that Ive had for the past 6 years gives me a paper that has a tech bulletin on it from AERA. It goes into detail on how to possibly fix your head ticking problem, if the ticking problem is coming from this.
For now all I can do is type what is says and then if you guys with the same problem as me that thinks this might be a fix for you can just PM me or whatever and I can send you a copy of it. I dont have a scanner and I even went under AERA site to try to find a .PDF file that I can plaster on this site, with no luck. I ended spending 6.50 for something there gonna send me in the mail. Monday Im gonna call them and see if maybe they can email me a .PDF file so I can give it to you guys if you want it. So for now we're gonna have to do it the old school way till I hear different.
and it goes like this....... Irregular Snapping Noise On 95-04 Chrysler 2.0 & 2.4 with Vin Y.....
The AERA Technical Committee offers the following info regarding a snapping/ticking noise from 95-04 Chrysler 2.0 & 2.4L engines. Vehicle owners have expressed a concern over a sound noticed when the engine is idling in park between idle rpm and 1400 rpm at normal operating temps.
This sound is on the upper end of the engine (cylinder head) towards the front of the engine or pass. side (right side). The frequency of the sound will increase with RPM. The sound is more of a higher pitch snapping noise than a low metallic knock.
Then it starts to go into detail on how to fix the prob. It talks about chamfering the edges of the cam caps, but doin them a certain order to where you can actually bolt them back in slightly angled.
Like I said above, if any of you guys are having the same prob as me and would like more info, get ahold of me and I will get this to you in some way shape or form.

Sorry poppy, been check and double checked. When I dump oil in the motor while its at idle, the noise goes away for a minute or 2.
....and if does turn out to be piston slap after a change heads and do this fix, Im def getting rid of this car. This sound is so loud its embarrassing. Ive heard piston slap on other motors and this doesnt sound like it. Im 99% leaning towards a head problem....the cars not mine, lol.

It sounds like you may have an exhaust leak at your manifold.
