Ok, here's the deal. Years ago, I spun a bearing in the original engine (96) and replaced it with a rebuilt engine from an unknown year car (97-99 tho i think). This is the same engine that I have in now and as far as I can see, there isn't a fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail and the 95-96 cars don't have one by the fuel tank.... so would my ran run right without one? I also ask this because I'm finally trying to get the turbo finished and get this thing out of the garage. The fuel pressure regulator is nescessary for the turbo to work, right? I'm so confused now.

Bro, the fuel pressure reg keeps your fp at 50psi. If you didn't have one I think the fuel pump would just pump as much as it could. I've connected my fpr's wrong and that was the case. The fp jumps to like 170psi and the rpms grom and the temp rises pretty quick.

you have to have one if you've been driving for a while. check the back where the tank is and fallow lines to make sure.

See that's what I thought.. but it must be back by the fuel tank someplace and I thought 95-96 cars had the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail... maybe its the other way around. does anyone have any pics of where its located on either the 95-96 or 97-99 cars?

If you had an early fuel system with the FPR built into the fuel rail you would have a fuel return line on the car already. Did you see that?

You would also have a vacuum line sticking out of the passenger side of the fuel rail end.

I believe some 96 models came with the FPR back by the tank like all 420A models did in 97-99.

My guess is you have the late model fuel system already. The FPR is easy to see back by the tank and it's smaller than the fual filter. It is right next to the fuel filter and has a small return line that loops back up to the tank.

This is a pic of the late model 2G fuel pressure regulator. It is usually Tee'd into a fitting shared with the fuel filter. It's hard to tell the size in this photo. The fpr is small. It could fit inside a coffee mug.

NOTE:
It does NOT have a vacuum line run to it since the late model 2G fuel systems do not adjust the fuel pressure. It stays around 47-50 psi all the time. There is a spring and a bypass valve in this device that returns any excess fuel to the tank that is not needed to maintain the pre-set pressure. The barbed line is the one that returns fuel to the tank.

thanks for the info and picture guys.. I'll have to take a better look under the car in the next couple days. The thing is... I'm alomst postive that my old motor had the FPR on the fuel rail and since the new motor doesn't, I thought maybe I somehow was running without one.
