Ok I searched around for over an hour and didnt find anything like my car is doing.
So the last couple days the car has had a hard time starting, and when it does start its real shakey. When I push on the gas it sputters and acts like it is gonna die. If I let it sit and idle on its own it will slowly idle fine and then I can drive it.
Well the other night it wouldnt start at all. It would crank but not start and I smelled gas real bad. It started the next morning, but it was real shakey again with no gas smell.
I changed the plugs and wires (NGK BKR7E and NGK wires) and it still starts shitty. I havent checked the coil, but I checked it a couple months ago.
Heres what I know:
I am not throwing any codes Not overheating No smoke out the exhaust No coolant in the oil, that I can tell O2 sensors replaced less than 6 months ago I have new plugs and wires Still running the EGR (no block off kit)
Info on the car:
99 eclipse with star stage 2 aem adjustable cam gears (zeroed out) missing link NGK BKR7E plugs NGK oem wires All stock fuel except the items that came with the star kit
Someone please help -Todd
Star Stage II, Greddy Type S, ADFX 3" DP, blah blah blah

Well after 2 weeks, it started running shitty again. Why would you say it might be the coolant temp sensor? Why would cause the car to run like this. Just want to know before I replace it. -Todd

Todd, the ECU uses the CLT to determine the temperature of the engine. Based on what it sees, it adjusts the fuel trims. Commonly, when this sensor fails, it tells the ECU that the engine is -145* or something, so the engine is constantly trying to warm up. If you've got a logger, try viewing CLT value and see for yourself. Otherwise, just pop for the sensor. It's less than $30 and you can get them from Autozone.

I was having really jacked up drivability issues/idling problems with my car. Apparently vatozone's "wells" brand electronic parts suck shit. I bought a TPS from them and I am guessing it was bad from the start, brand new. I recently purchased another TPS from NAPA... this one works like a fucking charm. The car is runing like it should, no screwed up idle, no stalling out on me, no bogging or hesitation at all. Autozone is no bueno.
I changed alot of stuff on the car too before I finally solved the problem. The next things to change if the new TPS didn't fix it are the O2 senser, and the MAP sensor.... along with the CPS and the CAS. That would be every sensor in the car. Thank goodness the car is fixed now.
