#101074, "Cels 11 and 51"

Ok I've searched the hell out of this and I'm getting really irritated. My car has has cels 11 and 51. The car idles rough like it's got a big block cam when cold but then smooths out somewhat after it warms up, bucks like a PBR bull ride off idle to 5k, Running rich even though it's throwing a code 51 for "Lean" and has almost no power with a "REV limiter" sound at 5k and above, doesn't matter how much throttle I give it still acts stupid. WTF ? Tps, Map, Iat, O2, Cam, and Crank sensors are fairly new. Walbro 255 works fine, fuel filter is fairly new, stock injectors, and K&N filter is clean, I'm at a loss. I checked all the wiring to the sensors and all are soldered good. I'm starting to lose it on this crap, guess I'll have to go Ohm out the damn sensors one by one. Think it could be the pesky Engine coolant temp sensor I've heard a few people mention causing the "cel 51" for lean ?? I know damn well I'm not making enough power all motor with 8.8:1 compression to make that bitch run lean, there ain't no way.

The Code 11 I dunno either, Cam timing is dead on (least it was). I've got Crane 16's with fidanza cam gears, and I did the Mechanical tensioner retro fit. I had a Mitsu mechanic help me redo the top end this last time so everything would be correct. Anyone with similar problems with a fix ? Any help is wanted. I know someone here has had the same problems.......

You had a Mitsu tech help you with the timing belt installation? Or just the hard parts in the head. Sounds an awful lot like timing bein off a tooth or two. I'd get back into that assy and double check that everything still lines up right. When switching over to the mechanical tensioner, you need to be damn sure you've done right. A couple people have lost their head through the most minute of mistakes with that thing.

You got the SBR rebuild, eh? What did you think? How was the service? Delivery time? It's interesting to see soem fresh faces offering 2GNT parts these days. Do tell, sir.

I gotta agree with Brian on this one (yeah, how hard is that?).
I thought that you may want a little food for thought on your tensioner:

Possibly same predicament as others?

The Mitsu mechanic is a good friend of mine. He's done 100's of headgaskets for the "Mopar Eclipse's" as he calls them. We tore it down at first because it was doing the same thing, we though it had skipped timing, and we were right. The last shop who worked on it installed the cam seals wrong and they leaked out onto the timing belt just enough to make it jump time. So we put it all back together to spec, everything torqued correctly. Still does the same thing. Bucks and stumbles, almost no power. Thinking a sensor or wiring is to blame, hope it's not the ECU.

Thinking the lean code might be caused by the ECT sensor gone stupid, or a bad injector, I did have what looked to be aluminium powder or dust in my OBX fuel rail, so we switched back to the factory rail, with same stock injectors.

Glad I have 8.8:1 commpression, cause I'm not sure but 2-3 teeth off usually mean bent valves right ?, we had the head 100% dissasembled after we found out the timing had jumped, and mine are perfect.

The slowboy bottom end is pretty good I'd say, better be for the money, I had to get the entire short block cause mine was too far gone. It took them a little while to get me the engine, they said they couldn't find a decent core to build on, then the one they did use had crank issues and had to start over with another one. Overall they did well, engine has almost 8k on it now, and no problems minus the cels for "11 and 51" just recently, and I don't think the engine is to blame. For N/A running turbo compression, that thing pulls pretty damn good. Can WALK a Scion TC no problem hehe.

I'm Going to replace the ECT tonight, Anyone got any ideas on the whole bucking deal ? I'm thinking bad cam or crank sensor, but still need to ohm it out. Anyone ?
