#10065, "starting troubles"

after i leave my car sitting for a couple of days, it takes like 5 minutes to start. the starter keeps turning and i have to stop it and turn the key all the way off and do that for like 5 minutes. i was doing this today and the last time i turned the key, i hit the gas and it started up. wtf? somebody on here told me a while back that it could be the fuel relay or something like that and it costs 15 bucks. anybody else done this? is it 15 dollars at satan or what? is it easy to do? give me some other suggestions as to what it could be. thanks

If it is the MFI relay, then the fuel pump will never turn on. No fuel pump, no fuel pressure, engine won't run. This can happen intermittently. You should hear the fuel pump turn on momentarily when you turn the key to "on". If you do this a couple times in a row, the fuel pump won't turn on (already built up pressure). If the fuel pump won't turn on, then the car will crank forever without starting. Pressing the gas won't do anything.

Or maybe the IAC motor is stuck shut. If the throttle is closed and the IAC is shut, very little air gets into the engine. Engine won't really start without air (it'll try to start, then die). Tapping the gas will let the engine start.

I'd bet on the MFI relay. I had mine go out. The car would crank and crank sometimes, but never start. Then, all of a sudden, it would start and run fine. It took me days to figure it out. If figured it was something really complicated. Felt like a retard when I saw it was the MFI relay.

Here is the test procedure:

I would test the MFI and fuel pump relay
