#100178, "What does an Eclipse put to the ground stock???"

As many of you know I have a 99 GS OZ package with Auto GSX rims Blah Blah Blah...

And I just spoke to a shop today and he told me that a port and polish "May" screw up my passing the California Smog Test as will placing bigger pistons in the block.

So it seems I got screwed by Mr. Mitsu with no grease lot's of sand though, fortunate for me I got a car that still get's me around so I guess Mr. Mitsu did not have glass mixed in with the sand.

I was thinking of trading (So I can stop Bitching) but in toooo deep and will be paid off in about year (If Bush and his crew stop messing with the economy) and well since I'm stuck like a cat up a tree I gotta know what I'm dealing with and hopefully you guys can help.

How much horse power does the 420a put to the ground in stock form?

I have been running calculations of -17% for drive train loss and I have come up with 116whp, if this is correct please let me know if not please tell me what do they do.

I have searched many many sites and I see everything from 103whp to 120whp so which or what is it?

I saw on one site it is -33% for drive train loss.

I'll be able to add most bolt-ons on the market except those Cam adjuster wheels (Sorry very tired but you know what I mean) and an after market Intake Manifold due to the sorry ass California Law Makers.

Has anyone dynoed a stock eclipse (Hopefully with an automatic if not it's ok) if so please let me know so I'll know what I'm dealing with.

On a side note I know of several laws that I can use to get around the laws and the CHP (One law being a very very old procedure under U.C.C. codes) but I only wanna use those if need be I don't like dealing with lawsuit paper work and or putting a Cops/DA's and or a Judges ass in jail at this point in time.

Thnx Guys for your help.

P.S. After she's paid for I'm going on a very very long vacation this has been a nightmare from hell$$$

first of all, you come up with some STRANGE metaphors.

second of all - the economy has more to do with Greenspan's choices than Bush's. We have an impending housing bubble crash that's going to decimate our economy soon - thank you mr. ex-fed chairman Greenspan.

third of all- your calculations came up very close to the real number. emoji when I was stock, I got 115 at the wheels (manual)

it appears that low comp pistons will not pass the smog refs in cali. I myself still don't know what exact emission parameter is thrown out of specs, but I'm sure there is a solution somewhere.

Just can't hack it with the 2gnt? I kid, I kid. I wouldn't mind having a Cobalt SS. Those Ecotec's make GOBS of power.

And I agree with you on Bush and our government.

He hehehe!!! emoji Thx for heads up, I kinda thought I was about right about the hp.
Damn!!! I gotta stick with all bolt-ons or trade it in and trading in a car that is almost paid off is not a good idea especialy since I got so damn much into it just in payments!!!
I did not do my homework and just looked at the body and origin and figured I could do anything to this car, Hell it's mine not the state's or is it???

An STI is to a Cobalt, is what gold is to dirt! These two cars dont belong in the same sentance with eachother.

And too bad it's absolutely hideous. emoji

You're not going to be making much in the HP department, but since it's paid off, here's a suggestion for you. Keep it paid off. Give it a nice drop, some classy wheels, the legal bolt-ons in CA (that being a little christmas tree air freshener, I believe), and a nice stereo system - something subtle, but capable of being good and loud without sounding like shit. Then go out and find yourself a ratty, 1G AWD car. Strip it down and make it into a real race car - drag strip, autoX, even rally if you have good taste. Pretty sure CARB only deals with cars being operated on a "Public Highway." Last time I checked, the drag strip wasn't a public highway, so you could build a beast, get your high performance drug in doses, and still have a sexy DSM for the daily commute that won't get you into trouble.

Or pull you over and hassle you about out of state registration. CHP can do anything they want, they can tow and impound your car for 30days and charge you the impound fees. Even if you have a legal way out you still have to go to court and prove your case, and by that time you're already out a car for a month and god knows whether they're going to reimburse you anyways. California sucks! We're moving as soon as Jen's done with school here.

Before you move I urge you to go to this site http://www.freedomradio.us/ and order the book The American Sovereign i think you will be surprized by what you will find in it.

You can in fact put a CHP officer in jail for violation of your rights, remember Rodney King?

Sure it was the beating that got splashed across the tube but it's much much more than that, listen we have rights in fact in this book you have the right to put a lein aginst a judge and any government worker and screw his/her credit up sooo bad they'll wish they never saw you!

I'd like to give ya all the steps in the book on how to deal with these rats but I want you to see for yourself and all you other readers please buy the book the U.C.C. codes that he writes about are enough to put a real big smile on ya face emoji if you use thenm correctly and by the book you will get the last laugh!

See the founding fathers knew these rats would show up in the future again and they put into law some stuff to keep them in their place.

And to this day it's legal as far as I know and nope I won't tell ya to do something illegal and get ya into hot water.

Knowledge is power dude trust me they don't want you to know how to protect yourself with U.C.C. 1-207 cops wanna be funny I say bring it on!!! emoji

woah, rescinding your SS number... that's a new concept to me. wow. I'm about to do some math on taxes, interest, personal savings, and "projected SS income" when I retire. thanks for the link

edit: well, I guess going that route prevents you from having interest-bearing savings accounts. forget that man

Use the search engine, check the power rating? emoji

I too! have and stock DSM

2gn are rated at 140 hp so, the bolts we all do just add that to the 140 hp. Just do an est. math guest that should be in the ballpark.

Please do as I have been scratching my head on this for years on what an auto does of course more bolt-ons would give me a better est but you pretty much have some of what I have.

I have a airhog intake filter (kept the stock snorkel) I have a pacesetter header and a magnaflow muffler, she's much better than she was from the factory that's for sure but she don't have that Omph!!!
At least not yet I gotta get a pulley set next emoji

Dude,

Replace that OEM snorkl and put a real Air-tank in it. Cheapies are the APC Intimidator for $60 at advance/autozone or you could some other Cold Air Intake or short-ram.

You could hear the air going through it. OPHM!

I prefer CAI over Short-ram because 420a's put out alot of heat.

My OE hood is getting replaced by a lightweight carbonfiber Due to Engine heat produces.

Ok I go back to a cold air but I know now I won't get much hp out of this slo-polk till I boost it if I can get around the Calif. smog by registering in Nevada which seems the only way or move back to Texas.

Maybe you should buy the Haynes Customized and Performance books for Sport Compacts

I skimmed really fast, but I think my experiences will help...I have a 97 gs auto with ported and milled heads, AEM cam gears, header, intake, and haven't had a problem passing the sniffer test in CA. The trick is to drive at very high rpm's (hitting above 5000 a lot) for about 5 minutes before the test to really heat up your cats. My numbers varied a lot based on that (one time it barely passed, the next time, it passed with a huge margin). However, you have to find a place that will be cool with the visual part of the inspection, and I haven't had a problem finding one (been to 3 so far, one of which was a test-only center). But in CA, any non CARB-approved part basically makes your car technically fail smog.

EDIT: Forgot to add that my car has been dyno'd both stock and after some mods, but I can't remember the exact numbers...I'm thinking around 105 whp stock?

wanna pass cali smog and put out 210 to the crank? Buy a GST...

Or you can be like me and take the turbo off everytime you go smog. Not that hard I can take it all off in less than half an hour.

I almost passed smog with hicomp pistons, keyword is almost then all that oil burning screwed something up so I'm a GP now emoji

Naaa too much trouble I'm not that good with tools I just take it to shop and let them deal with it, it's all good tho I don't mind all or most of the parts being CARB legal just wanna get something outa this slo-polk if I can if I can't get it to go a little faster I'm gonna go with either a Cobalt or an STI depending on my the thickness of my wallet.

Sorry I hate to bug you guys but is there two differnt dynos or two different ways of doing a dyno?
This dyno shop I called in Calif. said that there is peak hp and there is under load hp ratings and under ld mesurements are accurate and should be the one that everyone should look at.

Like say I got 116 peak I would be at 95 under load.

Is this true?

I love load tests. Results also vary due to dyno manufacturers.

Picture this, your car going up a hill ( the infamous grapevine here in Cali) and while your going up the hill someone keeps stacking bricks on your car. This WILL slow your car down, put a huge load, find the hp it has and as a bonus find anypart that is not up to the task and break it.

Its not for the cars that are half ass'd. It is the best test though.

Seen many a little home built hondas blow up during load testing sessions.
