#74439, "OBX Intake Manifold"

Today i was searching eBay and ran across an OBX Intake Manny for the 420a. It was the first time i'd seen it. I thought venom was our only aftermarket choice. i've read different things about these manifolds and the results on our cars, but this one is only 200 bones. also, obx has a pretty good reputation, where venom doesnt(dealing with our cars anyway). if ya ask me, the look of a polished manifold is almost worth that. any improved performance would be a bonus. check it out and see what you guys think.

damn that actually looks pretty decent and smooth design. for $200 i think that's an awesome price compared to what's out there. i'm just not sure of the fitment, hopefully one of you guys buy one and post results. if it's good fitment it's no doubt on my mind that it will out flow the stocker.

well i have one of those intake manifolds on my eclipse.. im an obx dealer so ive had it for like a month....well anyways heres the deal with it.. first off there is no place for the map sensor to mount so youll have to drill and tap some holes.. secondly the vacuum ports on the back are all the wrong size.. yet another pain in the ass,,, more drilling and tapping... third, the actual bore is only 52mm .. sucks cause i had to cut alot out to match the modern performance tb.. lastly i have an obx fuel rail and it doesnt fit up with the intake.. go figure.. I didnt really notice any gains and the 420a is turbocharged and built to the max.. but its nice and shiny and for a few hundred bucks what the hell sure beats stock.. here is a link to a pic of it installed

By the way im running straight without an intercooler,, its ghetto for now until i pick up a huge front mount

Thanks for the good review man. I like it when people are honest and straightforward about things they buy, especially when they're a dealer!

dosent seem like any issues that the venom unit didnt have. would be tight to have a manifold that had another set of injector holes in the back.

"would be tight to have a manifold that had another set of injector holes in the back."

Hell yeah, 8 injector set ups are bad ass as hell. You always no a hardcore badass when they runnin an 8 injector setup. I company that made monifolds for these should clean up.

Fast Fabrications also make some good manifolds for our cars. You just gotta port the runners for best effect cause you got to use them with it. http://www.fastfabrications.com/

She's a good car. But it's time for me to move on. I'll miss her more than anything but my next car will have the same heart with the same passionate drivers. I hope things workout best for the both of us.

sorry boys anything OBX makes is crap.. do you really think they put any R&D behind a intake manifold.. is it just a shinny stock one?
cant see ebay from where im at, so can someone host the pics of it for me

if you want bling go for it, for most of the guys here who want performance
stick with oem for now

most of the time a new im is just going to do more harm then good..

I love dino and 2gnt. ####ers (my word) bliz stole it but i let him borrow it

>Made from T-6061 lightweight billet aluminum and chrome plated
>Increased volumetric efficiency by 70% over stock intake manifold
>10-15 horsepower increase
>Direct bolt-on without modification
>Utilizes factory sensor positions and auxiliaries
>Accepts up to 66 mm throttle body
>Lifetime warranty from manufacturer defects

70% increase in VE? Wow! Who needs a turbo, when you can have FAR over 100% VE without one! Damn, what a good deal! I would have expected over 100% VE to give more then 10-15HP, though.

Ah well, this mani gives 15HP, plus the 10HP from a CAI, 15HP from an exhaust, 10HP from a header, and 10HP from an underdrive pulley, and I will have, what, 200HP? Nice. That should be good for 12s, right?

Also, it is a bolt-on mani. This is really good. Beats welding on the intake manifold. I hear that T-6061 aluminium is tough to weld to cast aluminium. Glad to hear that it bolts on.

AND! It accepts up to a 66MM TB! Great! Having a 66MM TB is SO important when the hole in the end of the mani is only 50 somthing MM wide. The air flows great through the TB, and hits a wall as it gets into the mani. I hear that the wall it forms will help prevent reversion.

That warrantee is great, too. If the mani is defective, they will fix it. If the mani doesn't fit, however, you're on your own. They guarantee that it will be of good quality, and meet design spec. If the design spec is shit, however, they will not cover it.

Great find!

whatever man, that shit still looks better and you can tell it out flows better than stock, i agree with the small TB opening is too small, regardless, just by looking at the runners, it will outflow stock. so what if the welds ain't all that, look at that compared to our piece of shit stock crap.

Darkrealily do you know anything about how a im works...
just because its bigger or have something different doesnt mean its better
you want straight ass runners.. those things arent straight, they arent stacked and create no sort of velocity
I bet the fuel with atomized like shit with that thing

2nd the thing looks ugly as fuck....

most of the boys here dont really need a new im, the turbo boys might but come on
yalls tb is what 55mm stock and peoplare putting 68 jeep ones on or 62
thats nuts man

but hey for you boys anything bigger is better, shit ima make some ims

money OBX just claims gains and shows no dynos or anything,do you really think a ricey company like obx can make a good powermaking product

please

yeah and you obviously are blind...dude whether or not you think it won't flow that good, it will flow better than stock 'cause it's all sheet metal, why do you think we have to port and polish ourstock manifold? look at the runners, we have a two piece design crap with restrictive passages...please what are you trying to say, that guy who tested it hasn't even been on a dyno to compare results. i'm sure if he was to dyno the comparison, i'm sure the OBX WILL flow better. it may not be the best design, but compare to stock it looks like it will do a better job. also if you open up the TB inlet to atleast 60mm, i'm sure it'll make a difference.

plus the designed our intakes with the rough surface for a reason... to increase turbulance thus recieving a better a/f ratio..... with that alum....polished like that...its like dripping fuel on a wax candle... it just rolls off..
im kinda buzzed rite now..... so ya..*L* u guys know what i mean

i just want to see some gains, you would probably see a gain at about 5500 and up the higher rpm range if anything. probly even some loss at low rpm's. but no map hole? wtf? small inlet? fuck that. you shouldnt have to modify anything thats made for our engine, thats ridiculous. "hey..here, this here is a M:S gasket for the 420a...oh wait no except you have to cut this section in order for it to work"

..retarded imo, the whole idea of this makes me nautious

all i want to see is a dyno

edit: and WHOEVER wrote VVVV this should be taken out back and SHOT, if they survive....shot again

everyone needs to shut the F*CK up. i honestly don't need any OPINIONS on this manifold. If i want one, i will decide for myself. quit trying to prove to other people that you are smarter....both of you. just shut up. U guys are just wasting bandwidth. how about you point out some facts huh? noone needs someones opinion on something THEY DONT EVEN OWN. And until you buy it, i will think you guys are tards/hefs.

cept for my mang turbo8u, i respect this guy all da way!!! DANK!!!

Having Problems? Heres my Three step solution to anything 2gnt related.
Step 1: Put down everything in your hands.
Step 2: Grab a lucky strike, Smoke it.
Step 3: Walk to the fridge, double fist some keystone ice, sit down in the shade, drink one beer, finish cigarette, drink other beer, roll a joint, smoke it, walk back to your problem, and in about 5 minutes the solution will come to you.
If not. Go here: here

If still nothing, your trying to hard. Start over at step 1.

ive seen enough ims to know whats good and whats not
that thing looks like fucking ass

OBX does not make performance parts.. they make cheap apc type junk, a real im comp would show dyno charts and some R&D.. OBX just pieces shit together and throws it on teh car

there is no TAPER on those runners.. they just used what they thought worked. Since your boosted a good taper is going to be something you will need.

can you even see the inside of it?

that thing is junk and if your going to argue obx products then it just makes you sound even dumber, a guy here has it and said it was junk
us honda boys have many ims to pick from, so yes conversations about them come up all the time

every set up has a im better for it, they are just selling a manifold.. not a boost specific one, not a na one

you want to honestly tell me its good..then go fucking buy it and have fun with that pos im.. moron

I love dino and 2gnt. ####ers (my word) bliz stole it but i let him borrow it

What everyone is trying to say 420aye is that there is more to manifold design than a big sheetmetal box and some tube runners. You have to consider runner length, shape, texture, curve...there are all kinds of parts to the equation that I don't even know or understand.

It may "flow more" but that's not really a good thing either. Especially if you're NA, because if you get too big of a airmass you lose your air velocity which is more crutial.

So listen, don't just go crazy. Or spend $200 for something pretty and regret buying it

So, let me get this straight... if I wasn't fucking retarded enough to buy this manifold, I can't express concerns over it's construction or design? That's dumb. I guess we all need to get turVos and Tornados so we can all know that it will not work. Sometimes, we need to trust physics.

yeah i see what you're saying on the whole design, it can be better, plus those discrepencies that have been pointed out, but i'm thinking on a boosted car point of view. for us that are boosted it will be beneficial for top end power and faster volume of air, but i'm skepitcal about it. the only way to tell is dyno comparisons. the dude who bought is boosted, but i'm not to impressed with his turbo system setup. it looks kinda ghetto to me.

i was boosted, I read up one many ims...
Golden Eagle had a good article somewhere about it, the taper on those things are going to suck
they will cause you to lose velocity and I dount it will atomize the fuel well at all

look at ITB set ups, they have velocity stacks and they want very straight pipes.. thats the best thing
sometimes there are a lil curve in the runners but thats life

you really have to test out many tapers until you find the right taper for the runner.. this is importantin boosted cars

just because its bigger doesnt mean its always better..
