So within the next couple months i'm gonna be moving to Texas (Houston actually, so if any of you are out there i'll be joining you haha). I need to know if theres anyway I can get my car through emissions. I know I will have to put my egr system back on, and re connect all the rest of my emmisions system... Heres the big one tho, i'm running MS and have no factory ecu of any of the factory harness. Don't emission states always try to read engine codes? Because they'll just read "no ecu connection" lol. Does anyone have any input on this? I'm completely terrified i'm gonna have to sell my car and I dont want to lol. thanks alot.

Good luck. 96+, they just check the computer for completed monitors and flagged DTC's. Any codes stored, you fail. Can't connect? You fail. It's rather draconian and shitty.
You may be able to get them to do a pre-96 rolling emissions test if you can pass a sniffer, but i doubt it. If it's a 95, put a cat on it and make sure it's got a good 14.7:1 tune, and hope you can pass.
What part of town are you moving to?

about 45 minutes south of Houston in Kema.
But basically, keep my cat installed (i'm only running stock exhaust pipe with a tip welded anyways), re-install my entire egr system (I kept for just this reason lol), and have a kickass tune? Hopefully mr. Dave will help me with that haha.
And i'm assuming i'll have to try to convince them to forget about scanning my car haha. I do have a 95 so maybe i 'll luck out..

Since '95 wasn't technically an OBD2 model year, they don't care abouut the CEL and won't hook the scanner to it. They will do a rolling dyno test, idle and 2500RPM (iirc) with the sniffer. As long as you're running a cat, stock cams, and a decent tune with good plugs and wires, you should pass...
*edit* oh, and enjoy Kemah. Great place to get seafood.
You'll be about 30 minutes south of me.

o. ok man. thanks for all the info. cars basically stock now minus a v2 intake and MS. Needless to say I shouldn't swap in my mild built motor...thank suckks. I wont have anyone in florida to keep the car registered to like I originally thought.
And I was out there in Oct. Ours friends boyfriends step dad is an engineer at NASA and we got a special 1 on 1 tour through the training pool and shit. It seemed ok there. but I'm use to the car scene here. whats it's like out there?

I'm too old for the "car scene." But there's some pretty active boy-racer types in certain parts of town, I think. Probably nothing in Kemah, though.
