Okay. I understand that shit happens and you never know what kind of shit is going to come up at the last minute, but I have to say something, and I think this is the best place to say it.
I have been talking up this Poker Run since last October or so and there was some decent interest in it from the get go. When the time came to register, interest waned somewhat, but people still generally wanted to go. Some registered and for one reason or another, ended up backing out in the last few days. I'm not out to talk shit on anyone because I've been there, but I have to say it's pretty fucking disappointing. At one point, I was optimistic that we could have close to 20 2GNTers from 4 states at this thing and in the last few weeks, it's down to where Uber and I might be the only ones going, and meeting up with JReynosa (who lives in NV so he HAS to go).
Then I come up in here and see over 50 slots filled and it looks like there could be another 20-30 people coming with, based on comments on individual lines. That's close to 100 people directly related to this community possibly coming to the same place on the same dates for the same thing. I have to say, given the raw deal I've got going on right now with my Poker Run (which is a far cry from being half as important as the SO), I'm honestly scared to think that less than half of the people on the SO list will actually make it.
The point is, I don't know how important this community is to every individual registered, but I know it's pretty goddamned important to me and I want to shake everyone's hand on that list. This is more than a weekend of unbridled alcoholism and debauchery, it's also a family reunion of sorts. We're a family here and we've got to be one of the most tightly-knit communities on the entire intarweb.
So, if the Shootout is important to you. If meeting the people behind the screen names and experiencing 2GNT in real life (as in outdoors, away from the computer) is important to you, do yourself and the rest of us a really big favor and start planning out what it's going to take to get you to Norwalk in August. I may have to quit my job just to makeit there (I'm die hard, remember? ), but I am going one way or another. This is the single greatest chance any of us will have to meet one another and party in person for a year. I say we make the most of it. If it's important to you to go and participate, you owe it to yourself to do the leg work to make it a reality this year.
Make this the year you tell your friends and coworkers you're going to the largest DSM meet in the country. Make this the year you come back with stories of thrilling victory and humbling defeat. Make this the year you make something really big happen in your life. Do the homework now so you can be ready to go when the caravan rolls into town.
I'll see you bitches in Ohio!
