ok here's my problem. normal everyday driving my car shifts fine. its a 95 rs with manual tranny. i've searched for a few days and found nothing on this. like i said, shifts fine driving normal but if i put the car under a load and accelerate hard, it is ver hard to shift and downshifting is impossible, especially at high rpm's, as in from 5th to 3rd or 4th. could it be the throwout fork or bearing, any ideas would be very helpful. thanks guys

if you're going fast, you do not have a 420a

why are you trying to downshift at high rpms?

you might have worn out motor mounts that are allowing the engine to shift too much under higher rpms and binding up the shift cables. do you have any eccessive vibration or clunking?

High RPM's typically will not allow you to downshift. There is too much force on the dog teeth to allow the slider to split away from that particuar gear.

ok, say i'm cruising at 65 mph and some punk in a v6 mustang pulls up beside me, i try to shift into third gear and i can't, the clutch is engaged but when i try to push it into third, nothing, the rpm's try to raise up like it's engaging but it's not. its hard to explain without being able to show you

I had this problem for a while when my clutch master cylinder went bad. I put a new one in and it worked but I couldn't down shift like you are saying. Well it turns out you have to adjust the master cylinder.

Is your clutch pedal "mushy" or have no resistance until about half way pressed? or is it firm from the very top? If it's "mushy" then disconnect the clutch pedal from the master cylinder. (it's a tight squeeze getting under that dash) Remove the clip and pin from the pedal. Then grab a 14mm & 12mm wrench to loosen the master cylinder fork. Unscrew the fork a few times to make the piston rod longer. Then tighten it up and hook it back up to see if it changes anything.

Again this was my problem and it fixed it. My pedal was "mushy" until I did this. Be careful though. If you unscrew too much the clutch will always be partially engaged and slip under load. (boost for me emoji)
