I put a new transmission in after my old one kicked it.
This transmission i have now ran perfect. Every gear locked in crisp. About 10 minutes before i got to my destination, i noticed second gear felt like it wasn't engaging from the lever. It was engaging in the tranny alright, so was fourth. It seems all the bottom gears on the lever select feel like ghosts.... It's like i'm shifting into them but i can't feel it at all from the shifter. That sweet, firm click/lock is gone. All the top gears (from the shift select lever point of view) have the crispness still.
What the hell is wrong with my car and what could be causing it to act like this. I dont beat on any of those gears nor do i "slam" my car into gear. There aren't any grinds or anything like that, it's just the crispness is gone from those three gears. It's hard to explain. It feels like those gears affected feel like neutral but the car is in those gears and moves foward as normal.
When i stopped after i had this problem, it wouldn't go into any gear so i popped the kick pannel and tried to see if anything fell by where the shift lever was causing this problem or if i had a loose cotter pin. Nope. Checked the cables on the trans, nothing. I went in for my job interview and told my gf (who works where i'm getting my 2nd job) that she might have to take me home. I got in the car and drove off and it went into all the gears. I'm very, very lost and i feel like selling my project at this point to get another honda. Never had or heard of problems in a honda like i've had with my dsm.

Don't freak out. Probably somewhere in the linkage. Check horseshoe clips and be sure that the support bracket holding the cables to the tranny is not flopping. If that's OK, you got the eyelets on the cable ends to look at and the shifter bushings. I suspect horseshoe clips.

You probably have a worn or damaged bushing in the trans-side shifter cable.

Clips look good. I'm hoping and praying i have some extra bushings. I'm almost positive i did. I'll work on it in a minute and see if i can figure something out. It looks like rain though.
I'll check the plate that holds the cables to the trans. Doubtful it's loose but you never know.
Keep posting suggestions. I'll try to rule what i can out.

In the HELP! section of your local AutoZone, located a set of "windshield wiper motor mount bushings" and pull the rubber off of them. Cut it in half along the groove.
Instant replacement shifter bushing.

I was told skateboard bearings and hemi(heim?) joints work too.
Turns out, the shifter cable clip closest to the egr pipe fell off somehow.
NEVER LET ANYONE WORK ON YOUR CAR THAT HAS ACCUTE ADHD!?!?!
I fabbed up one out of some 1/8th inch thingies and my trusty dremel. They'll suffice. If somebody has those clips that they'd be willing to send me, i'd s your d. Not really, but i'd be willing to lend a hand in the future. My custom clips are working but i'd like to have the oe ones for peace of mind. Meh, that was a pain in the ass trying to figure out what was wrong. My mom actually lent a hand and we got shit sorted. Thanks to her and you guys, my car is back to dsm normal.
I hate people who rush through things, which is why i'm doing my timing belt and headgasket myself. My buddy andrew is going to help with my gauge and turbo install since he's tedious like that. All my other "tuner" friends are morons. I want to do the job right, they want to do it fast....their cars show it.

Don't be too hard on the person who did the job. That horseshoe clip is notorious for being put on but not pushed all the way down because of the location. Glad you're on top of the problem now.

Mark, if you met him and worked with him, you'd understand.
I thought he was going to kill himself taking the upper mounts off of my shocks without a spring compressor....or anything really. He's like "that tool takes too long".
Lol.
Lets just say it feels alot better now with my clips. No play. I even put deep crosshatching on them so they'd dig in and stay in. They're not comming out.
