#6939, "need help picking first clutch"

i recently purchased a manual trans and conversion parts . Before i put it in i want to get a new clutch . This will be my first car with a stick . I have drove stick b4 tho . Im looking for a modular clutch that engages/disengages softly like stock so i believe stage 3 or 4 would be a bit too much on a first timer . im also running 8-10lbs of boost so i need it to handle that power . With all that said i do not have much money to throw into it . Can someone help me out picking one ? iv been searching on here for hours but most people talk about stage 3+ and are running more power .

Joining the club, eh?

SBC is great. But for those on a budget the PT Cruiser is a pretty good choice. Be sure to get the NA one, not the 2.4 turbo one.

For a first timer on the clutch go with SBC. They run anywhere from $350 on up. Check out thie link post above for pricing on specific clutches. If you decide to go with SBC, you might find that the OFE to suit you best. Ask around on the boards here, alot of guys run the OFE so you should be able to get some good feedback in regards to how it performs. I have the DXD 6-puck in my car, and it's MUCH different from the OFE to my understanding so I won't be able to help you there.

You may want to speak with the guys at sbc on the tz series, but I've heard that if you plan to race it, you must wait for it to cool off completely between each pass because of the type of clutch material they use for it.

I bought the SB TZ clutch last summer when I did my atx to manual swap. I picked up a neon flywheel and went with the non-modular clutch to save some cash. I don't really know what stock feels like but i'm sure it's pretty close to it. It'll engage very smooth if you let it or it will grab instantly if you dump the clutch. I'm only running about 6psi and haven't been to any tracks but it has never slipped during some very aggressive street driving. The only part that sucked was the 500mi break it becuz i only drive the car about 2500mi a year... so it took almost 2 months.
