#670, "scary tranny problem"

...so i took the car for a quick spin the other night
and to my surprise
i found myself unable to put the car in gear- only 5th gear worked that night.
...so i put the car to sleep thinking that all that was needed was time for it to rest and reflect upon its disobedience.

wrong.

today, i started her up.
and found that only reverse worked.
then i tried to put it back in reverse- no go.
so i shut the car off- and i was able to engage every gear.
i was even able to- shut off car, shift, turn on car, drive, shut off car, shift, etc.
...i only did it twice- but it is still possible.

i just read a thread where someone said that they blew threw gears.
...i'm really hoping i didn't "blow" anything, as the connotations seem both expensive and sticky.

any advice/things to look for/rough estimates/hypotheseeeees?

many thanks

jean-pierre

Check the clutch fluid, and bleed the hydraulics. I would bet that you have some air in the lines, and the clutch isn't disengaging properly.

Ditto. there's either a leak in the hydrolic clutch system or a blown master or slave cylinder. Check your fluid levels and bleed.

checking fluids and bleeding.
how do i go about doing this?
where do i look to both check the leves and to bleed?

what does master/slave mean- how does fit into the idea of the workings of the clutch?

oh yeah- is there a specific trim of fluid that i should look to fill with?

thanks a lot

dot 3 or dot 4 brake fluid... i burst a hard line going to my slave cylinder a while back... try pumping the clutch and then see if it goes into gear
