#6555, "Buying a new clutch"

So my SPEC Stage 4 is shot so I'm in a market for a new one. I myself don't know much about transmission and clutch related issues. Tried searching but was hard to describe what I needed.

So I know that I have a Neon 3.55 geared transmission. When buying a clutch does that effect anything? Or do I just find one fitted for a 420a and buy it?

The other thing I wanted to know; can I use a clutch made for a 4g63 on a 420a? I found a very nice and decently priced SBC but it said it was for a 2L turbo or for the 2.4L spyder. I thought about it and couldn't think of why I couldn't get the clutch and put it on my 420a.(Aren't they the same transmission just opposite side bell housings?) Any information that you could englighten me with would be great. Thanks guys.

Doesn't the neon use the same block as ours?

I'd assume it's the same but if it isn't then i would have made an 'ASS out of U and ME'.

Yes the Neon transmission mounts right up to our block. The Neon's transmission is geared differently. The best way I can describe it is that you get an extra gear in it. When my brothers stock Protege is in 4th gear at 40mph I'm in 3rd gear at the same RPM.

Read through this:

http://www.2gnt.com/index.php?d=3.55

for the 3.55 install.

You can't use the turbo clutch.

Neon clutches are the same as ours.

Just be careful of modular and non modular. Our cars run on a modular set-up. 95 Neons come with non modular set-ups. You can change our set-ups to non modular if you like. Read this for the differences;

Gotta love the Wiki.

Awsome thanks for the links bullet.

Turns out I have a non-modular clutch. Time to do some shopping.
