This just keeps on getting better and better. Fuck. Here it goes. (short story)

So, i take my hood off today to bondo up a series of dents in my hood cowl. I finish that and while waiting for the primer to dry i decide to remove my windsheild washer resivoir. I dont need it. It's taking up space and it was a bitch to remove. So while i'm pissing all the fluid on the ground sitting in my car listening to tunes, i get the bright idea that the plate that supports the battery just has to come out.... This should make it easier on me.

My god! My transmission mount is a bit off...something is amiss. Why is there a long, gold bolt sitting on it? Oh shit...it's not sitting on it. This long gold bolt is sticking halfway out of the mount? WHAT IN THE HOLY FUCK? What the fuck kind of shit is this? Well, i'm really pissed off now because it's one more thing i have to fix. Not a really big fix but more work i shouldn't have had to do. My guess is when the mechanic changed the clutch on the car (clutch is new), the dumbass either a) forgot the nut for the bolt or b) didn't tighten the nut enough. So now, i have to jack the tranny up, take the bolt out and replace it.

Question is, what do i replace it with and what do i ask for when i go to advanced tomorrow to get my fel-pro gasket kit?

I recommend dsms to anyone who wants to learn to fix everything on a car. Haha! I'm never taking my shit to a mechanic. Ever. Besides alignment and machine work, nobody is touching my car.

Well, since nobody knows, i'll just not fix my car until the weather is nice again. No point in taking all that crap out of my car if it's just going to rain like hell on my workspace.

I'll just take the bolt out and get it replaced with a grade 8 from the hardware store.

that should work fine, just remember to torque it down!

Edit: IIRC they are an M12x1.5 bolt grade 8.8 or 10.8, don't remember the length. if you get the matching nut for the other side then your thread pitch doesn't matter

It kinda burns me though that they tell you how the mount is assembled in the haynes but dont tell you what size bolt it is. It's been raining on and off and it's really a tease.

I got lots and lots of good stuff for my car i'm just dying to put in. I'll have this thing running reliably and with a few more ponies than stock by the end of summer. Stoked. And thanks for the help.

Oh, and for anyone else who stumbles on this, remember that that the bolt and nut is the same size as our wheel lugs!

unless the bolt is stripped, then your wasting money. you can send that money to me. just put some loctite on it and call it a day. ive never had anything come loose on my car, and ive never used loctite.

I fixed it yesterday.

Got a grade 8 nut and a lock washer, jacked the tranny up and checked the hole placement with a mirror, slid the bolt through, put the nut and lock washer on, torqued to 65lb/ft and now my shifter doesn't pull with the car anymore. Nice. 25 cents and a buttload of sweating in the hot sun.

Did find a crack in my rear mount. it's a small one though so when i pull the engine, i'll weld it on up. Ofcourse it's on the same side as the mount i just fixed. WONDER how that happened.... *winks*

Now i can get back to doing what i was before i got sidetracked: Lots and lots and lots of body work. Passing time until the engine parts i need are in my hands....
